Engine immobilizer

hey hitman, whats involved in re-programming things like car keys etc ?? i am a bit of a computer wiz but havent done this sort of stuff before. just curious to learn.

I guess its more the fact you dont have the software or the hardware so whats the point in going into details?

Just talked to Giltraps and they want $350 for a replacement key with remote, and thats without getting it encoded, or $150 without remote, can you just go to a local locksmiths and get a key from there cut?? I know the lock smith in taupo does laser cutting, will they work or does it have to be OEM??

Inside the key plastic end is a transponder that has to be near the ring that goes around the ignition switch and this comunicates with the ecu and unlocks it. When you get a new key it must be a key that has this transponder and maybe it has to be blank im not sure if you can recode the keys or you just get them with a number attached and youhaveto use the vagcom to change the number in the ecu to match the number of your key. get it :)
