Im not sure, Dads been dealing with it for me. Should it be written on a sheet somewhere?
I can ask when I take the car back if you like?

Yea, if you could. They have to do it as part of the compliance, and you would probably have had to be under 90db, which is not a lot!

Silly thing is, for future warrants you only have to be 95db

(unless, perhaps, on older cars they are allowed to just accept that an original system wll be ok, and only have to worry about modified systems)

The car is getting its CV boot replaced today and the power steer leak looked at. I should have it by 4pm, that gives me an hour to get down to the AA to get the car on the road.
Should be able to take it for a drive today, cant wait!

Interestingly, CARJAM (FAX) latest update says this about the car:
September 22nd pre-registration check

let us know how it goes. Have you got VAGCOM ready to hook up?

BTW - CCS replaced one power steering hose for me a couple of months back - seemed to be getting to the end of its natural life.

Cheers guys.
I dont think its running 100% though. It needs to get a service so Ill go from there. It might be something as simple as plugs, who knows.
Also, Im not a fan of the flutter sounding so early. Sounds a bit boyracer. I look into this as well. Ill make a clip so you guys can hear what I mean.

Bruce, they didnt measure my db reading. From what they said they only do it if the car sounds loud.

Just took the car for a blat out in the country. Very enjoyable :) Round a tight up hill second gear corner I was surprised to find the car scrambling for grip though.
Also, what does the "!" mean on the dash after hard braking?

After I got home I started wondering how old the gas in the tank is and what octane it is. Many thats why Im thinking its not pulling as strong as it should?

probably the "bomb" is knackered - low hydraulic servo system pressure

I havent ordered the Samcos yet.

Is the brake bomb a pain in the but? What sort of money is that to replace?

I thought it might have been a hard braking warning. I know Mk5 GTI's makes a noise and flashs rubbish up on the dash.

i heard the "bombs" are only 70 dollars... dont know how true that is

BB

Glent has some info on the bomb, ordered online he said $370 odd i was told about $800 from a dealer.
resonably easy to replace but they are a dumb system and the whole system is a pain in the butt.
if you replace the bomb and all is good again then that is excellent.
You can test it by running the car then turning it off and then turn ignition on but don't start the car. You should be able to press on the brake about 50 times before the low pressure beep beeps. I get about none from my audi so i disconected the wires :P
your lucky it didnt beep at the testers ;)

Nothing wrong with the system as a design, imho, but bombs have a finite life and should be treated as a consumable.  They are usually good for around 7 years before starting to leak their helium.  Are clutches and brake rotors 'dumb systems' because they wear out?  (I don't need to point out that the warning system is there for a reason, and is safety-related, so disconnecting wires ..... yes, well)

Welcome to the world of I-5 turbo ownership

The reason I asked about the Samcos is because you mentioned that you didn't think the car had the expected performance ..... 1st thing you should be looking at is how much boost you are getting, and if the hoses are all original then it is almost a given that you should be thinking about replacing them.  I have a Roose set, and apparently they fit better than Samco's.  Can you feel the over-boost kicking in?

QuoteQuote from Mihnea/Doug MRC for info 'Boost levels: stock is peak at 1.3 Bar (1.4 Bar when trying hard) dropping
to 0.8 at the redline. Remapped it is peak at 1.8 Bar, dropping to 1.1 at the redline.'
