The golf thermostat is a bit more than a A3 one.
 The heater should run hot even if the thermostat isn't opening, I think you may also have a blocked heater matrix or its disconnected as many are, check the hoses going through the firewall.
 Get a new fan switch too if your one is old.

The heater was working before i blew the relay 2 weeks ago and was pumping hot. when i do the thermo ill try flush out the system. there are definetly hoses going through the firewall and both lines are running hot
