Hey Guys,

We have a 2003 VW Polo that has an occasional engine knock. It is generally when then engine is warm, under load and just before the auto gear box is about to change down a gear. It also appears to only happen when on a light/medium throttle but disappears if you rev the engine hard.

In the past we had the EPC light come on a lot which was apparantly a build up of carbon in the intake manifold. Is the engine knock a common problem/and or what it is the source likely to be?

Running on 98 octane
TIA

Check for any vacuum leaks and perished rubber hoses. Is it fully serviced with new plugs and leads etc?
Have the fault codes read.
The end is nigh, but the end of what is the question?

next time you get a service, Get them to reset the ECU to defaults settings. Sometimes they can get a little spike that confuses the ECU
