Personally, I think the Porsche is not as 'flashy' as the R8, and is a proven design. Don't know how much luggage space the R8 has. The Porsche has the rear 'seats' that can be used for extra luggage for that weekend away with ....... It's actually quite a practical tourer for two. Don't know if the same could be said of the R8
I remember when I was a kid, a friend of my fathers had a Ferrari Boxer. But when he went to golf, he had to take his Cortina because he couldn't get his golf clubs in the Fazz. Be a real b.....d to head off somewhere for a dirty weekend, but have to take your daily driver because you couldn't fit your luggage in your 'supercar'.
Agree the 911 is practical for what it is.
A gentleman I know bought a 996 911TT new from the factory.
He, his wife and infant daughter drove around Europe in it for a couple of weeks. He had a special bag made to fit the mountain buggy to stow on one of the rear seats.
But he also now has a B7 RS4 Avant for the "practical" side.
But, the R8 has a nice wee trunk.
Wonder though if it has a spare wheel, or like the 997's just a can of goop in the glove box.
Porsche make a spare wheel bag and special tray that straps into one of the rear seats for the 997 if you want to shell out for one.
Or, you could "back date" your 997 to 996 spec and fit a spare wheel in the trunk.
And really, who would buy either of these cars with practicality foremost in mind?
