[. Be a real b.....d to head off somewhere for a dirty weekend, but have to take your daily driver because you couldn't fit your luggage in your 'supercar'.

Personally, I think the Porsche is not as 'flashy' as the R8, and is a proven design. Don't know how much luggage space the R8 has. The Porsche has the rear 'seats' that can be used for extra luggage for that weekend away with .......  It's actually quite a practical tourer for two. Don't know if the same could be said of the R8

I remember when I was a kid, a friend of my fathers had a Ferrari Boxer. But when he went to golf, he had to take his Cortina because he couldn't get his golf clubs in the Fazz. Agree the 911 is practical for what it is.
A gentleman I know bought a 996 911TT new from the factory.
He, his wife and infant daughter drove around Europe in it for a couple of weeks. He had a special bag made to fit the mountain buggy to stow on one of the rear seats.
But he also now has a B7 RS4 Avant for the "practical" side.
But, the R8 has a nice wee trunk.
Wonder though if it has a spare wheel, or like the 997's just a can of goop in the glove box.
Porsche make a spare wheel bag and special tray that straps into one of the rear seats for the 997 if you want to shell out for one.
Or, you could "back date" your 997 to 996 spec and fit a spare wheel in the trunk.
And really, who would buy either of these cars with practicality foremost in mind?

from what i've read, the R8 is every bit as practical an everyday driver as the porker.
even that second linked article says it was built to fit 2 golf bags.

The R8 has next to no storage room at all. The little compartment in the front is about half the size of one in a Porsche 911 and it has no rear seats. You might get a tiny bag behind the seats if you are lucky. There is no way you would get a golfbag anywhere in an R8.

I'd go with a GT3 myself.

well reading that article again, it was either a typo or the drivers are richer than i thought.

it said there was room for 2 "gold bags" behind the seats.

Why the 911T guys?
I love 911's, and right behind the V10 in the garage would be a 997 GT3 RS. But the turbo just doesn't really ring my bell like the R8 and RS.

Ditto.

Have to say the new 997.5 GT3 seems to have diluted the GT3 magic for me.

Wonder what the 997.5 GT2 will be like ?
