Imagine how cheap they were to run in America back in the 70s and 80s :P
When everyone else was paying to fill up there lumbering V8.

Had people embraced this type of car instead of luxury and power we would still have a clean world and plenty of gas left pretty much.
The rabbit owners used to hate the "guzzlers" and the Guzzlers used to hate the "hippies"
VW was very much seen as an economical and puritanical car chose back in the day.
 Not now tho :P

Sweet :) I owned this about a year or so ago, a young guy on his oe bought it from me to do a road trip around the nth island!

I remember reading on the tdi forum about how to change the rev limiter when I was planning on cranking the boost, its just another screw or shim adjustment I think........

Is it a 5 pot diesel? I'm fixing the head gasket on one at the moment. Bit tricky and expensive to fix but its a cool van and nice to drive.

Check the bottom rad hose. Diesel drips onto it and they perish and then burst and then head gasket time ;)
Got a new hose from Giltrap for a hundy.
The one im fixing is not a turbo model tho.

Wind the WG shut, advance the pump a few notches at a time... Take it for a squirt and if it's not smoking like a boss, advance the pump a bit more.
Repeat until you get excessive smoke, then back it off a fraction.
Once the WG is out of the equation, boost is controlled by fuelling ;)
