In all seriousness my vote is 1.8T - but I like all the options for different reasons and none will disappoint if done correctly.

vag_nutter

1.8t can be an easy swap if an aeb ecu and loom from a us a4/passat is used

HandsomeDan

I'm serious about the bike engine and box...would be kick-arse!

Well, the decision has been made, the donor found and the work about to begin!

The Donor

I actually intended to do this up, but it soon became apparent that it would cost SO much to get the body right etc. So the decision was made to buy it and do the transplant with a little voice over my shoulder saying 'Do it, Do it' which sounded funnily enough like Alan and Nigel ;)
It had some key things going for it:
1)Engine in good shape and pulled hard for 180,000Kms
2)Relatively new suspension Bilstein/koni combo
3)Wheels with decent rubber
4)Leather interior for 3dr so will suit my 3dr gti
5)Manual
6)Most panels in good shape, Front and rear bumpers are in good nick and full arch kit.
The Bad:
1)Electrics a bit messed up due to a loom fire. A new loom was installed, but not by anyone who seemed to have a good grasp of the VR electrics- I'm hoping Alan's mad skills will be able to sort this out :o
2) Rust on body of car, towards the rear around hatch and petrol flap
3) there's prob more, but can't think of it :-X
To be honest, it's the electrics that have me really worried, but i have faith ;)

Though the transplant should be relatively straight forward for the Platinum boys, and as i have everything needed, fingers crossed we wont be hampered by not being able to find bits and pieces. All the running gear, Engine + G/Box will be transplanted. Incl A/C if it's working 8). Body wise the Mk2 will remain relatively stock apart from fixing that damned ride height :-[ with maybe a slight upgrade in the lighting department but the body is pretty straight so the priority is to get it going + certed!

I also wanted to thank Brendon for being cool and gracious enough to let me buy it (as he had also been looking at it)- Cheers mate, I def owe you a beer or 5 ;). And thank Alan, Nigel, James and Rob for being supportive and really enthusiastic about doing the conversion! You guys rock! :)

So dropped the cars off this morn, and the last time i would see my MK2 (nicknamed 'Low Down') in 8V guise >:D So we'll attempt to keep you all updated for those interested. Cant wait ;D

P.S If there is anything you need/want from the Donor, PM me. Obviously engine, gearbox, Dash, Suspension and wheels are gone ;) But front is in good nick, have arch trim kit, Rear VR6 lights, badges, rear zender spoiler + hatch. In the spirit of VW ownership i will be selling all this at reasonable prices to fund the conversion- so make me a reasonable offer and you may pick up a deal!

BTW Everything in the Mk2 has been spoken for, engine, G/box, full interior And entire running gear.

it sucks you had to do this to a 3door, i would have swapped you my 5 door...

BB

Keep it as light as you can and the ABF will make you happy. You should megasquirt it or links or whatever if you want it to really fly.
The end is nigh, but the end of what is the question?

Yeah, was a bit gutting. But the body would need a lot of work to get it back to stock. Major rust around gas tank flap etc. :-\

But this one dies for another to live...
