Pull the motor and do this?: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p5LMudFofEY

yeah I was thinking that would be a sweet option.  but $$$ to burn!

taking 2 cars and making 1...

i wonder if there are anyways to get that car a cert - not as a stock standard RS6 , but to do 'something' to it that makes it non standard and it go through the cert process so it drops all the Singapore'ian baggage.

how do home builts get a cert?  they must have to go through an emissions test as well?  or do you just say the engine is 'this' type and as long as that type has been given a tick previously then all is good?

which is strange how this can't as these cars are in NZ already.

nice and easy!  find a written off RS6 - get the tags, put the tags on this one and say you've had it fixed by some sweet panel beater who makes the welds invisible!  (or just weld over the top of a good body to give it some character and hint of work!

I hear that weta workshop place does some good work.

Prob best to export it to another country and sell it there.

The Jetta with the 97 GTI engine passed the emissions test, so my take on the emissions bit is Audi NZ protecting it's market.

so somehow it just needs to be resubmitted as something not audi...just slap some Holden stickers on it

:P

it just looks too tempting (but cheap for a reason I guess!)

Presumably the current owner has looked at the options and for whatever reason thinks that selling it here cheap is the best option. Presumably if they thought they could get much more exporting it they would have done so? I wouldn't fancy my chances exporting it to somewhere like Samoa or Fiji - would be a long shot I would have thought. NZ is bad enough for a car of this caliber, but on a small pacifc island it would truly only be a show pony and a nightmare to service. Can't imagine much of a market for it. What would it be worth parted out? The engine alone must be worth some pretty decent $$$. Are those wheels the same offset (ET20) as on the B5 RS4?

Problem with parting it is that the market for the parts is very limited, the bits would sell but question is how long would it take and with a 25K buy price you got your work cut out recovering just that.

I wonder if you could have a shot at it from the Special Interest Vehicle approach - you wouldn't then have to worry about it.

Alternatively, what about supplimental Cats and insisting on a physical emmisions test...?

It will be Audi NZ digging their heels in, in other words - forget it.
Maybe with a lawyer and support from Audi Germany you may get somewhere as I know of a case like this (with a jap car) and the guy won, got his car regd.

I got an email back from these guys.

my original email asked if they were interested in selling the mags as I wanted to get my car back to factory spec.

they replied back saying they didn't want to sell as they would also like to keep this car original factory spec.

riiiiight....

oh well!
