you and me both Pristle,

there is one of the 1000th limited edition golfs for sale at the moment it's current bid is at R160000 - about $23000NZ. ouch

if we could have bought them they would only have cost around that landed and complied.
I would suspect it might go up to around the $33000NZ
then shipping and compliance costs on top of that , ouch almost $37- $38000NZ for a mk1.
probably not really worth it, but could be as an investment perhaps?

Only cars starting with WVW in chassis # comply, its all on the LTNZ website.
A MK1 shell would never be upto the same crash specs as a Mk5 or even MK4 shell.
On top of that I doubt they would even comply with the new emission standards either.

From my understanding the newer Citi was running current VW engine and management etc. complete with cats., so emission shouldn't be an issue. The main problem areas would be impact related. Or whatever other daft notion LTNZ come up with.

I'd say the Citi died to make way for whatever the production version/s of all the UP! concepts end up becoming...

I assume the UP will be badged Lupo when it comes out right? i.e. L"UP"O. Hope they make a decent GTI version!

Just posted my thoughts on this in the UP! thread ;D - I believe it will be Lupo.

GLIDN

well, the Citi did pass our emission laws, check that out already.

And the you could bring one as long as it's 1 of 1000 edition.
You can bring it in under specialty importation.
Due to production less then 20000/per year.

So no issue getting it on NZ soil.

However the last one sold for $34000NZ, plus shipping and compliance etc,
would have easily made it a $40K car. Awesome car but not really worth it.

There is no guarantee at all that you'd be able to register it as "special" vehicle. I would put money on it that you'd never get it on the road through LTNZ.
Importing it is no problem, registering it here will be.

Im from South-africa and a few of my friends drive that last edition mk1, the only reason its limited edition is because of the badge that says mk1, look at the previous model, 2009 model, its exactly the same car. If you really want a limited edition MK1 go for the ''MK1 citi Golf R line'', there was only a hundred made, its a 1.8i.
