Saw the 1st R20 in NZ today and have to say visually its a bit disapointing hopefully the drive will make up for it.

Was flown in for Colin Giltrap  :o

I was told today that those for general consumption will be arriving in January. Yee ha.

By visually disappointing, I assume you mean it is understated and not all wings and bonnet scoops like the Jap performance cars. All I can say to that is ....... thank goodness.

I mean it looks just like a golf with RS6 wheels on  ;D being a four door didnt do much for it either.

UK Autocar's roadtest puts its weight at 1521kg.

Looks like the old R32 story all over again.

R for mature drivers.

GTI for those who want something sporty.

On both the Volkswagen NZ site, and the TM New Cars section, they list a two door Golf R, with DSG?

I was under the impression that two doors didn't really sell here?

I also would've thought if they did, it would be in Manual, and the four door in DSG.

It is only the picture, the specs sheet states 5 door and DSG:

Well that put poo's to that!

It's a real shame the lack of new manuals available now. I know DSG is worthy, but it's really not the same.

I think it is a real shame they have dropped the V6 motor, that engine sound was fantastic and made the car, you are paying a lot more money for what is essentially a GTI.

... or S3 in Golf clothes.

I agree, miss the VR6.

RS4

As cool as the V6 is/was, emission laws are what its about.
Plus the R20 is still capable of kicking the R32's butt.

Still too dear but at least you can make it much quicker unlike the R32 whcih needed a S/C on it to make it quick.

Needs more aggressive styling though i reckon.

You always know when an R32 is behind you or coming towards you its that distinctive.

Thought it would be the old emissions killer.

And suppose the Turbo motor will be a lot more tuneable.

Still won't sound as good >:(
