sorry don't know how to start a poll so i'll just ask the question.

what is better appearance and performance wise 15 inch wheels or 17 inch?

cheers

No definitive answer really - I think it's all down to personal preference for appearance. Performance wise it'll come down to your tyre selection more than the size IMO. A decent 15" tyre is going to outperform an average 17" tyre and vice versa.

FWIW if you'd put up a poll I would have voted for 15's on a Mk3 - but I think with the right car, wheels, width and offset you can pull off either successfully.

well said.and i agree completely. very diplomatic!
i too tho would be leaning towards 15's

I have the solution - 16" ;)

Depends on the car.

Which is ?

on a Mk3 Golf, a 17" looks hot (in the right style) but you can have rubbing issues etc.

16" is about as big as i'd go, but tyre selection becomes harder and more expensive at 16" as they're less common - my Mazda has 16's and the tyres cost a bloody fortune for what they are.

I'd go 15" for performance/cost/tyre longevity and ride comfort, 17" for style.

im thinking 15 just for the said reasons above performance, ride comfort.....etc. but 17s just look so cool and with the wider tires makes it look so much more impressive. the guy at the place where i'll eventually get my wheels from said that if i go to 17s the braking will become worse and the ride will be harsher since i am lowering the beast ('97 vr6 golf) aswel. i just have to find a decent set of 15s. i was thinking about getting these

They look good but will chip badly when curbed (and it WILL happen)

Go for something with recessed spokes and more dish.

15's only if they are 8 inches wide
17's are nice in the right wheel
16's are the perfect wheel if the are Design 90's  ;D
Too much power is almost enough.

I reckon they look terrible on Forza. On that R, they look great with the differing lip width. But on Forza it's a uniform excessive lip.

I like those druids...

I have 17"s on at the moment (from the donor VR6) and yes less rubbing, 18" are a bit overkill- in hindsight but they look cool (to me) 8)

if you are staying with 15" just do the drop with good suspension and get some really good tyres!

Had 17's on mine looked great, but ride and handling not the best, so I put 15's back on and ride is much better along with better handling, although I would put some of that down to a new set of rubber too.
As previous posts have said, I think 16's are as big as you want to go really.

and then 16" have the problem of tyres which are expensive and not a good selection. looks like im going to stick with 15" then. problem is i just have to find a good set now and all the good wheels that you see on the net arent in new zealand yet.
