Hey guys,  the car is nearing 100k and I am in the process of organising the cambelt renewal etc.... whats the deal with auto trans flushing...haynes says it is sealed for life with long life trans oil and only needs topping up using vag com software to monitor temp.  Is this correct?  Seems odd that the oil never needs to be changed.  Surely it would get contaminated/break down with heat.  Car is used for commuting 80km per day 1.4 BBY VW Polo 2003 Mostly Motorway driving.  Top up or flush....will take to a dealer but just wanted your thoughts first.... we intend to keep the car for some time yet.

Cheers

Sealed for life is the reason they all crap out.
I service/flush ours every 20-30,000 km.
Go to Auckland Automatics, they are the best by far.

So basically not 'sealed' lol.... the trans seems all good so far (touch wood) but would prefer to have it changed if possible.  Will check out the Auckland Automatics.... thanks

Agree entirely about 30k changes.
An engine will last ages just by topping up the oil but a hell of a lot longer by changing it!

The older cars, as in MK3's and 6N/6N2 polo use ordinary Dextron3 and the newer stuff uses full synthetic ATF like Penrite

Good tip, thanks. I will probably get my partner's Audi A3 automatic new gear oil when it reaches 50000km. It has done about 37000km.

What's the recommended one for 6 speed tipo Audi A3 8P? and how much is needed? (litres

Only use penrite full synthetic in tipo's, auckland automatics has it better still get them to do your trans service as they are a great bunch to deal with.

Thanks Vert.

how about manual transmission repair / rebuild / LSD install?
I am probably end up going to toughen up the gearbox at some point and quite keen on LSD.
Only problem is with Polo GTIs, they come in 2 sizes (either 12mm or 13mm I think..) and can't really tell until you open them. Meaning, I will be carless until the part arrives from ECS or overseas...

Who would be the best to do it?

Why not try an OBX LSD?
Our Vento one has been sweet, I also installed one in GTIVR6's car.

I know! you told me it's OBX but works wonders. I know you said your gearbox is noisy from the second hand parts, I want mine to be strong and sounds quiet...
How much are OBXs? much different from Quiff or Peloquin?

Our gearbox is noisy on overrun because its got chipped teeth on the ring gear, I got it for free when the stock diff blew up causing the chips on the teeth.
The OBX diffs are about half the price.

The trans are not so hard to service at home.
I drain and pull the sump clean it out with a rag and then change the filter.
I then run the cooler hoses if they have any into a bucket and run the engine for half a minuit to more old fluid.
You then refit the sump and pump the fluid up through the filler till it starts to pour out. then start the engine and shift gears put back in neutral and then pump more fluid in with engine going till it starts to spill out, fit bung all done.

I dont really dig the transfusion systems as they dont usually do the filter and I belive the sump is best wiped clean by hand thats where all the crap sits. Plus they charge you heaps.
The end is nigh, but the end of what is the question?
