Mk6 Golf TDI driven = amazing!
« on: March 04, 2010, 11:54:07 PM »
My flatmate who conveniently works at a VW dealership gave me a drive of his new Golf TDI yesterday, and I have to say that their new commonrail diesel technology makes even the Mk4/5 motors seem archaic!  The car was so well insulated and solid that there was not a hint of diesel clatter or vibration, no turbo lag at all or whistle from the turbocharger (not sure if that's a good thing..), and the DSG seems a lot more refined compared to the mk5 version. No question that diesel has caught up to petrol in the refinement stakes.

Interior plastics and trims are a huge step up from the Mk5 as well - looks, feels and smells very Audi-like which makes me think that the two brands might start cannabalising each-others' sales at this rate.  Maybe Skoda will be pushed into VW's traditional spot and VW will become the Audi of five years ago, with Audi forced even further upmarket?

Nice! I sometimes wonder how much better they can make stuff but from this it seems there is plenty of room still.

Be interesting to see what new stuff they come out with for the Mk7 which supposedly is already quite far through development...

I like the idea of the Golf GTD... wonder when we will see that here?

Drive my workmates mk6 regularly, so much better than the mk5. Pity its missing that GTI dsg fart between gears  :( Still quite fun in manual mode though  :)

Wow this is interesting, as I had thought the mk5 was so much better than the mk4, which they recon was a huge leap in technology from the mk3.

No leap in technology this time, just more refined than the Mk5.

I've sat in a few Mk6's and rode in one when my Mk5 was at Tristram for service, I think that the interior is more glitzy, not necessarily nicer,

but then I chose United Grey, rather than the bellybutton red, black or white
