I know I'm predictable, but the DC2 Honda Integra Type R is on my list for the following reasons:

1 - best drivers FWD ever. Race bred double wishbone suspension makes it a sensational drive and hugely effective track tool.
2 - B18CR engine utilises F1 technology of the time into an engine that produced the highest specific output from a NA engine at the time, combined with bullet-proof reliability. Destroyed the myth that high-revving jappers are hand grenades in waiting.
3 - a genuine historical pedigree - produced to commemorate Honda's first F1 win an 1965 in the Grand Prix Mexico.
4 - while not rare, time will make them so as so many are destroyed by idiots and blinged beyond recognition by fools - the automotive equivalent of "pants on the ground, pants on the ground, looking like a fool with your pants on the ground!"

oh, and
5 - I've got one (well 2 actually, but one's not in original trim ;) ) - and it's a low kms minter.

Other picks I'd definitely be happy to have in my garage:

RS4 V8
911 993 - last of the air cooled Porsches
911 930 Turbo (the whale-tail) - raw and nasty

Peugeot 406 coupe. Definately a future classic, Pinninfarina designed and everything.

Yea these are cool, my mate has one. I call it the Ferrari. He got it cheap as it had bashed a valve, got it all going and his wife loves it. Recons he did 175ks from the newton gully bridge to the motorway on the on ramp, thats pretty good I recon.

Audidude do you think maybe your starting to know a bit too much about that old honda you own ;)

Therein lies one of the joys of owning a classic - you get to rave on about stuff that thrills you and totally bores everyone else to tears
 :D :D

Cheers

And BTW, great topic Nik!

Pre impact 911's.
They're already getting dearer, and harder to find un molested.
But the molested ones are easy to rectify as it's usually just seats, bumpers, wheels, deck lid and mirrors that need putting right.
Nearly everyone who buys an older 911 just has to put later bumpers, wheels and all the drama on it. If they just left them alone...

Agreed.

Nothing worse than seeing an early 70s 911 ruined with later model whaletails and the like.

Mind you the factory wasn't any better than Harry Hotrod with their custom bodywork for anyone with an open cheque book.

And there is no cure for an 80s Porsche with blood red leather and white carpets.

 :P

The Japanese hot cars are following suit, it's so easy to mix 'n match parts amongst the various WRX's, EVO's, GT-R's etc. that unmolested examples are hard to find.

Audidude;
DC2 ITR is indeed a classic, I'll take an NZ new one please with the four eyed front.

Too bad Honda lost the plot with the EU Civic Type R and possibly going even further off track with the just-announced CRZ Type R hybrid.

Latest issue of NZ Classic Car Magazine rates the Mitsi EVO's I-III as future classics, if not allready. Which seems to be echoed on here.

Why not though the  Subaru STI Version 1-6 (original shape) ??

Subaru more common ?

Every boyracer and his dog seems to have one.

But not for long, they seem to be wiping themselves out at the rate of at least one a week.

Determining future classics is a bit of a wild gusee really. My opinion of what becomes a classiccar as opposed to just an old car is one that was charasmatic when new. Many of the models mentioned as possibles so far on this thread could be described as desirable when new but not really charasmatic.
As an example take a 1955 Citroen DS as compared to say a 1956 Vauxhall Velox...............both family saloons but rather different. Admittedly the Citroen was more expensive but compared to a similar valued competitor such as a Rover 105 the result is much the same.
Quite a few have suggested some of the higher performance Jappa saloons but I think all of those fail on the charasma scale; possibles could be early Skyline...(godzilla model) and possibly the GTR other than that I think you need to look to Europe altho Corvettes will always be a favorite if you are into American V8's along with the Dodge challenger/Charger

Cars like the S13/S14 Silvia are getting more expensive too.  Especially the K's versions.

The subaru WRX 22B already is a classic.  Don't see them around at all and the last one i saw on trademe a couple years ago had a tag of $40,000 or something.  Last of the homologation cars I'm pretty sure.

90/coupe quattro 20V are classics too!  Don't tell me they're not!  :P

Walkinshaw Holden Commodore VL Gp A SS - the bat wing very first car from HSV.

Many sad attempts at replicating the look, but the originals will be gold - already on the way.

Hard to even find a picture of a totally original one with original wheels!!

This one has 20inch wheels - YUK! And asking $100,000  :o

For real? They one made 1000 of them? Hard to believe (not saying your wrong). We never got them NZ new but they seemed a dime a dozen out here in the early 2000's.
