First German doesn't know the area, and neither did the second, but the third is from the North. Audi is obviously close. How long will you be in the area?

Tuesday 18th May to Sunday 23rd May when due at Frankfurt airport by 1800.
Don't want to spend too much time driving large distances and figured there's enough in that southern area to occupy us for 5-6 days.

Thanks for help Dennis.
Cheers

This may sound sick, but try and find an old KZ Concentration camp memorial to visit.  Really sobering.  We went to one near Hamburg, Neuengamme I think it was called, and I'd highly recommend it.  Very, very moving.

Berlin is definitely worth seeing too, even if you have to jump on a train or plane to go see it.  It's a beautiful city, just watch out for the naked people in the city parks at lunchtime.

Other than that, remember to keep right on the AutoBahn unless you're passing, and if you are passing don't do it on the inside.  Those cars come up in your rear view mirror pretty quickly even when you're doing 170 or so in your Toyota Aygo...

Still trying to figure out how to get 'em all to fit in a single garage....

I agree with typ53, I spent most of a day at Dachau camp.  For someone at the time with a brand new SLR I just couldn't bring myself to take any pics.  It was as though it would have violated those who had been incarcerated there.  A most sobering and respectful day.

Oh and a fitness comment - can you swim? Cheers and good luck, Mr Millener will be good company..

Thanks for that - I've just checked and Dachau is easy striking distance and only 75km from Ingolstadt. Will definitely add that to the itinerary. I've been to the Washington holocaust museum and was almost overwhelmed, so I suspect that will be a day to remember too.
Especially keen for my son to have that experience.

Not strange at all - the events around Dachau and its ilk, and the Holocaust are absolutely sentinel in the history of the world and every generation owes it to itself to take it on board.
