Jetta R it will be  :P
just been looking at turbo manifolds and I think I'll be going with this ATP mamma jamma, nice low mount unit with plenty of RHD clearance and it has a 44mm wastegate V band attachment  :o
Supports up to a GT4094 turbo  ;D

This is the car to be cut up, bit of a shame really but it has to be done
So far the new Bora guards arrived yesterday and the new 1/4 panels are about 7 weeks away ex Germany.
Just this morning I bought some GTI doors in the States, they will be some time off arriving as I'm going to try and consolidate some other stuff like engine parts with them to make shipping more worth while.

Located some HID Bora lights in Germany so thats another tick in one of the many boxes, somebody had removed the rear leather seats and replaced them with cloth GTI ones  ::) before the car was repo'd making it another thing to get but I managed to source some during the week which gets the interior back to how it was supposed to be.
Just little bits happening so far but progress none the less, will be stripping the R32 in the coming weeks when the bulk of the work begins  ;D

So whats the plan with the body John?
Remove front doors, remove the "B" pillar, put larger 3 door Golf doors on? How are you going to make the rear 3/4 panels?
Is the angle on the back window going to change?

Nik, the rear side window is going to be a major on this one as there is not much similarity between the Golf and Bora sides unlike the Vento we did.
The 4 doors will come off, drill the spotwelds out and remove the B pillar all together, I ordered brand new Golf rear 1/4's and the rest of the internal structure that can be salvaged will come from the bent R32.
Most of the B pillar and internal structure on that car is ok so there won't be a lot of additional panels I'll need to buy, the doors I bought are the larger 2 door Golf ones.
If you imagine the rear door window and 1/4 glass as one then the new window will be a little longer than that, going glass on this one also for a more factory appearance.
I have a side on shot of the concept CJ coupe thats being scaled up into a line drawing to get a better understanding of proportions, need to get that window spot on.

Sounds like a way bigger challenge than the Mk3 Vento Coupe.
Do you have a time fram you are working to or a date when you would like it finished?

Yeah it sure will be way more work/challenge but thats exactly what i'm looking for, just doing the engine swap is too easy and would all be done too quickly.
I think the bulk of the bodywork will get done over winter, the most limiting factor will be $$$ but hopefully the Jetta will sell reasonably quickly which will help things move along.
I'm hopefull on a competion in a year, I think thats achievable if things work out to plan.

Bought some GTI doors, glass last week and had them delivered to the shipper today, will try and combine some engine parts with them so hopefully they can leave the States in the next 3 or so weeks.
Slowly but surely things are beginning to happen.

I had a very nice chat with the previous owner of the R32 this afternoon, she gave me a bit of an insight as to what happened.
Her brother in law borrowed the car, him and his mates had been "hooning" in the car and they were reportedly doing 180km/h as they approached a 35km/h corner which of course they never made.
Pretty much went straight on and off the road only to be slowed somewhat by a row of trees, car rolled and the rest is history.

4 people in the car and all of them more or less walked away, they all had injuries of course but none life threatening.
She was so impressed how the car stood up that they purchased another MK4 R32, I always figured it was a high speed crash but wouldn't have guessed 180km/h  :o

And the result of that crash is this: Just a little bent, some bog and she'll be right!

There's not a straight panel anywhere, even the petrol flap is broken
The business end is fine though, hmmm R32 turbo- bring it on!  ;D

Haha didn't think of that.
She's going to look for the key and she also still has the owners handbook for it.

Do you know what genuine ones are worth?  :'(
Been looking for some in Japan and untill I find some for the right money these will have to suffice.
Can get you a set too if you want?
