I have been thinking about converting my B3 to 1.8T...anyone here done it?
I wonder how many modifications are involved and if its worth it

You'd be better throwing a V8 4.2 in it.

Dont think anyone has fitted a 1.8T to a B3 in NZ yet. Would be a cool car. Is your B3 a quattro?

If it's anything like the MK2 golf it all bolts up MK2 or MK3 mounts on a MK4 motor,
You will need a passat or audi A4 donor with the Nrth/Sth set up,

Go on motorgeek.com and have a look around the projects page.  There's a few 1.8T B3 quattros, sedan and coupe.  There's VR6T ones too along with some mad 5-cylinder builds.  But most of them are running aftermarket ECU, namely the 034 stuff.

I agree, although a 1.8t would be a nice (easier!) unit.

And I guess ultimately far more tunable.

I think the 1.8T would weigh less so the car should handle better as well.
