Hey everyone ive got my eye on a MK3 Golf Gti but its due for a cam belt change..do anyone know what would be the cost to do all belts, water pump etc

Water pump doesn't need doing unless its noisy, factory metal impeller so no problems with impellors falling of like a MK4.
Cambelt kit is about 250 ish, 2-2.5 hours labour max. If you did insist on a waterpump they are about 120 ish and are easy to do once the belt is off.

awsome thanks for that...is there any thing to look out for with the MK3 golfs that should pay attention to?

The MK3 GTI is pretty good, crank angle sensors play up (old age) as does the #30 power relay.
Engines generaly do big km's, might pay to get car inspection services to do a check if you're not mechanically inclined.

Without hijacking this thread too much, do the 2e motors have metal impeller water pumps too? i got quoted $750 to do belt, waterpump, idler n tensioner

80 Vert

yes they do, cambelt kit is around $100, waterpump around $120 and labour no more than 2-3 hours.
So yes 750 is very expensive.

vert... what kind of work do u have time to do.... if you can give me a list of things you are able to do then i would be very interested in getting it all done with you... ie my clutch is still on orginal with 161,000kms ... i would expect it to go away soon... cambelt was last changed at 90,000km so around 180,000 or 190,000km it would need changing ( drove 40km in 1 year so wont be too far away)......

thanks :)
