Water!
« on: July 07, 2010, 10:55:07 AM »
So my rear passenger foot well is rather moist, not the good moist like a fine chocolate cake, more the sloppy wetness of a sweet bag of KFC that was in the plastic bag too long when you stuck in traffic driving home.

Any way i hear this is rather common, and that it maybe be caused to blockages in the drains for the sun roof... i dont have a sun roof (i know! sucks to be me)

Also found some bits on the old google machine that say it could be a blocked 'cabin/pollen filter' upon more investigation of the beloved internet i found that replacing this is not overly hard, but i dont understand how the water that is block in this filter that sits above the fire wall heads straight for the rear passenger footwell, it seams odd.

any one had this problem? any one fixed it? any help would be amazing!

cheers,

Hagan

Leaking doors? Check the seals, look at the plastic lining behind the door cards.

I had a similar issue with my Audi 80, but sold it in summer, so didn't remember to do anything about it beforehand.

perhaps a leak in the heater matrix? is the water oily?

otherwise a blocked drain hose from the airconditioning?

I have been told of a problem with the passats. They leak from a grommet under the rain tray some were and it fills the front floor up with water. The big problem is the body control module is under the carpet and it fills up with water. A sparky mate of mine had one a couple of weeks ago. i can find out more info if you need.

i pulled out the pollen filter and battery this evening, there was a bunch of s**t under there blocking the two fire wall drains and a bit of water, cleared them out, cleaned out as much gunk from around the bottom of the windshield and pollen filter as i could,

got the dehumidifier in the car now hoping this works,

oh and no the water does not seam oily,

i will go pop the door drains now...

cheers,

i can find out more info if you need.

i could be interested in some information...

the car has been dry ever since i cleared the fire wall drains, for a good few weeks, until today when i left work i found water in the back not just moisture but actual water!

not an amazing picture but the darker spot is water, heaps of it, even the front passenger foot well is starting to get wet now!

any one have any ideas? i checked out the fire wall drains they seam pretty dry, i have no sunroof.

where or how do i check if the leaks coming from the AC? (even though the water is not 'oily')

any help would be awesome!

i just hope i can fix this before the water does some super expensive damage.

In the meantime I would make sure any modules or electrics near the water are well sealed , wrapped in glad wrap or something

All those B5 cars do that ::)
I have a customer who has it and his control module got wet and all his lights went haywire and his immobilizer kicked in.
Its because his pollen filter lid was missing.
You also have to remove the pollen filter surround and reseal it.
Its good you have cleared the drains as you say but did you poke a stick or blow air all the way down them to make sure they flowed the water out?

took it to Brodie European, he fixed it up for me, turns out that the previous owner had a new windscreen installed and they just hadn't put all the seals/plastic surrounds back in properly!  >:(

but seams to be fixed now so thats good!
