Continental cars have just given me an estimate of between $800 and $900 for a 60,000k service!!! Apparently, 60,000k is a big one with replacement air and pollen filters and a new set of iridium plugs. Ouch! Does anyone else have experience with this?

hitmanGTI

well i hit 60,000 kms about 12,000 kilometers ago..

i didnt get no service... Whoops  ::)  :P

I just had (a couple of months ago) my 60,000km service for my Golf. CCS also quoted around $700 to $800 for that service.

I kinda said no that price! Coz I live on the shore, took it too German Automotive LTD in Glenfield and they did it all for $500 (or try Qualitat).

i look at it again and again but i fail to see what justifies a $1000  for cam belt change

and more than 200 for all the pads on a car..

me thinks CCS is placing atlease 300% markup on OEM items

what is so good abaout getting your car serviced at CCS... are the mechanics really that good!

I dunno, I guess that you are handing over the extra money in the hope that they know what they are doing. You don't want to leave your baby in the hands of Joe Bloggs down the road who has no idea how these cars are put together.

Well your wrong! The price are set by the importer not the dealer. The labour rates are in keeping with all other large dealerships. As for the cambelt change, that will include everything under the cover(belt, 2x bearings + hydraulic tensioner) , not just the belt.

Ahem.. We don't sell OEM parts, we sell factory parts. We have stuff all mark up, we just go by what EMD supply. If you found out how much their mark up is then you would really have something to piss and moan about.  ;)

And yes, CCS mechanics are that good. They spend all day every day working on the same cars. Most of them have been here for a number of years and know the cars very well. I should imagine that it would be a similar deal for Giltrap but of course I cannot be seen promoting them  :P

do they go for a VAG course or something to that effect?

Conti's and Giltraps are without doubt ridiculously expensive considering it costs about $200 to service a new car through a Honda or Toyota dealer etc. Considering these too are new cars with just as expensive buildings, paying the same mechanics wages and using the same tools, I can't understand the difference?  But I must admit I did purchase my car over a very similar one because it did have a full service history with Conti's from new. This gave me a huge sense of comfort seeing regular $600-2000 service bills fixing every squeak etc. possible that they could find to ring money out of the poor turkey who owned the car before me. Mind you this is still very cheep compared to owning a Ferrari and getting it serviced at Conti's. My old man owned a 348 GTS and would typically spend $3,000 on a service. When something needed fixing he has spent close to $10,000 on a few occasions. At this point he sold it as it was getting too expensive. I reckon over 5 years of ownership he spent $40-50K at Conti's servicing the car.

Steve

Make sure you are comparing the same service items. $800 at CCS may be $800 at somewhere elce for the same job. If your honda cost $200 to service then its not getting the same ammount of work done that a $800 ccs service would. There will be a difference but not that much.

Cars wear at different rates. 60k on one car may need a whole lot more work than 60 of another. The service intervals are guides only, its not an accurate indication of what needs to be replaced.

orggti

$1000 isnt that much for a belt change on a modern euro car at a big expencive place like contis. The parts would make for most of that  and can you imagine how much money it would cost to run a place like that! so you guys can feel right when you walk in their, with there flash coffee machines and pressed clean outfits. If you wana own a flash new car you pay, its as simple as that and stop moaning.........half of you will get your bloody parents to pay for it anyway, you dont see beeker complaining do you? he knows and just pays it.
Obviously a honda dealer will be cheaper and less profitable thats how the world markets work, if theres a world wide ressesion, honda will probly do better than audi and so on.
I would say that CCS would be the best at getting a latest model VAG car serviced and fixed, the factory will put them first and help them most and they will have the parts and name for 2nd hand value. But they will not be the best for your old 10v URQ, as i have seen from the work done on Frans one. This isnt surprising tho as to them its just annoying old stuff, so dont take old stuff their, take it to German Autos on the shore.

beeker

This is my opinion. Giltrap, CCS and EMD stick it in. They do a good job, but they charge a premium for it. How much ? probably 50% over a jap dealership. Just look at the hourly rate difference, then parts really stack up.

At the end of the day, if you dont like it, either dont buy one of their cars, or dont get them to service it.
