On some mk3s windows will drop  ;D
Reverse to reset

On the old 1991 Passat when you lock the car and hold the key the windows all go up.

I have tried it and the window of driver, front passenger and the left back passenger went down but not the one on the back of driver. Is it normal? or should all four go down?

All four should go up and down.
Have you ever have any problems with your windows before?

MRVR6

nope it still doesn't work. Guess I have to live with that. Too afraid to go to dealer to fix it. It still can go down when I used the inside button.

Mum's new A4 does it too, kinda handy in this insane heat we're having here at the mo.

that window not working could be the switch even tho hes using the key to use it. as they usually only have one relay for all the windows so if you got a relay prob none of the windows work. i can fix these relay if anyone has a prob. Also can usually fix the switches. rear windows crap out cause they dont get used much. Give the switch a firm tap to try and work it. Also when windows are down spray crc or silicon down all the window tracks to keep windows from sticking.

mk3 gti

I tried this all the windows went down but the switch inside the car will not work for the left rear
is it the switch or something else

Common mk3 fault in rear windows (relay) avoid useing as might not come up.
But if jammed in down postion - drive over pothole? - should now work.

My mates Mk3 GTi 16v rear left window will go down but won't come back up.  I'm guessing this is the same thing?  Does anyone know how to fix it or does it need to be taken in somewhere?

Cheers

Hi,

Had the same thing with my Mk3 GTi 16v this week.

Broken window regulator. Giltrap say quite common on Golfs 95 - 2000.

Sure VAG build these things in on purpose to keep their service depts going.
