Who has the hottest / quickest 1.8T in NZ? Maybe we should start this a a separate topic? I 'd like to see the most mod'd 1.8T there is........................

hitmanGTI

I would like to think mine will be one day

:D

including the likes of a K04 Turbo kit..

Audi-man

What does that set you back? Ron from RR&R said I should get a bigger turbo? I think he said something in the order of $4-5k. Has anyone done this in NZ?

A bigger turbo means the chip I've just ordered is useless? Do these guys to chips for the bigger turbos? Sounds like cheap HP?

You go first. If the gains are huge, I'll hiff the chip and go for the bigger turbo....

the K04 will work without any chip.. you will make a gain just out of the pure fact the turbo flows better... however.. to get max gains.. chip it with a chip designed for the K04

have u found a chip for the A4 what brand??

Audi-man

Weka I think (something sounding like that). Same as in the Turners RS4. An Aussie Audi specialist deals in them.

Although a Ko4-15 will work with a ko3 chip, you are playing with fire. I remember a few articles on this topic on audiworld. If you're gonna do it, do it properly. GIAC (via AU agent) and i think AMD have Ko4-15 solutions. Generally you get a Ko4-15, 5 bar fuel reg, and a new chip. You can expect about 230hp. Feels like a K03, except it will hold its boost and power above 5k.

Whats the difference between a lemans 1.8T and a standard 1.8T (other than 17" mags and an MTM chip?). Attached are the details of a tidy lemans example I've seen on trademe. This car is identical in colour and gneral appearance to my avant 1.8T (except I have standard 5 spoke 16" mags).

I like the lemans mags, does anyone have a spare set kicking around?

off memory,
> MTM Chip
> Different seats (the original S4, pre recaro i think)
> QuattroGmbH suspension (one up from sport)
> Brief says something about Steering
> 1/2 leather
> 17" wheels
> White Dials
> Silver inserts in dash/doors
> 7CD Stack
> Spolier
> Ski sleave (not sure if std)
> the uprated Alu suspension (got a feeling all later A4's got this?)

Essentually they handle like go karts. Moreso than the std A4 quattro sport.

I went to have a look at the Lemans in the flesh but it was gone, so I drooled over the RS6 at Giltraps down the road instead. Talk about missed timing, when the car dealer said "would you like me to open the car for you sir?", I should have said yeah I want to take this for a test drive please. I know lots of people do it as a hobby, but I feel funny about being a 'test pilot'. Kind of like a chick thing with 'window shopping' I guess.

Dumb question; but when you guys say you have a cat back, what does this mean? Is this a new exhaust from the cat down?

'Cat back' is from the catalytic converter back. On the A4 the cat is attached to the exhaust manifold, and before the downpipe. Most A4 exhausts are Flex back. The flex is at the bottom on the Downpipe.

On the RS4 the cats are behind the downpipes.

Another question for the mechanically simple minded (like me!):

Beeker said in another thread that you should get your car remapped if you modify the exhaust.

Can you clarify what is meant by "remapping" I thought chipping your car was remapping. I don't understand what you are doing to the car when you remap it to suit a new exhaust.

When you guys put the after market exhausts on your car who do use use to do the remapping? What is the process?

Cheers
Paul

P.s. Does anyone know what the RS4 sold for recently on trademe?

Chipping =  remapping, same thing.

Any extensive mods will need a remap. However, getting a custom remap in NZ for a VAG car is very very hard, near impossible. Therefore, you should keep your mods within the range of the exisitng map/chip, or ensure you use "kits" that having matching mod's with map/chip updates that suit these mods.

Keeping things simple, if you do a rear or rear and centre exhaust, your exisitng map/chip would normally support this ok. If you do the Downpipe, its starts getting if'ee.

I would recommend you dyno and health check your car prior to any mods, and then after each change. this way you know that your mods are working, and havnt pushed the limits too far by leaning it out too far. Torque Performance Dyno days are a cheap way to do this.

The clarification is kindly appreciated.  ;D

Another dumb question, whats the difference between a downpipe and exhaust changes that you described above? i.e. put simply, what can I change of the exhaust that is supported by the existing chip?

I couldn't agree with you more about doing a health check / dyno on your car. I did this just prior to Xmas and discovered I had a missing 20-30hp which turned out to be a dead cat. Would thoroughly recommend this to everyone even if not doing changes just to confirm your car is pumping out the correct hp!

hey mate.. have u got rid of the honda zing yet ?

still want me to plug her in and give her a computer health check..

yeah you gotta watch them dead cats.. esp when they get sucked in to your intake ;) lol
