$200 donation to the auckland city council christmas party fund.
« on: December 06, 2005, 04:13:58 PM »
my rego expired 30 days ago.
i didn't notice, unfortunately the parking nazis did.

now i've heard that you can get off a fine with a technicality for parking.

has anyone had any experience in doing so?

the reason is my ticket says i "operated a vehicle which failed to display a current licence label"
which is true.
it also said the locality was "O/S 28 wellesly st"
which is also true.

however it also says i was on kitchener "road" in "sandringham"
which, clearly , i wasn't.

if this was a parking fine i'd be able to get off, but since it's a failure to display the rego i might be pushing s**t up hill.

any lawyers / relevant experience?

failing that i'm just gonna write in and say give me a break. i never got a reminder and it's just over a month old.

Were you parked outside your house? I got off a lapsed rego fine  by saying I wasn't using the car and had no where else to park it at the time.

nah, i was on a 1 hour max zone.

i did the maths and if i'd left it parked there for 30 days i'd be paying quite a bit more than $200.

good thinking though.

Don't they waive the fine as long as you update your rego within 14 days?

You can come up with any reasonable explanation and they will let you off.  I've been broke up til now, I've been overseas/in dunedin, etc...

thanks for the advice.

i'll get a new rego at lunchtime then write them a polite letter.

Or the basic truth, you say they have put "operated a vehicle which failed to display a current licence label" but quite obviously you weren't operating the vehicle or the parking guys couldn't have got you

yeah i thought of that, but they used the past tense "operated" and since it's a 1 hour P zone i would have had to operated it to get there.

but nice idea.

Bugger, hadn't taken into account the 1 hour issue. I thought you had been pinged for leaving it parked while trying to sell.
I got a ticket 2 weeks ago in town for 'overstaying my welcome' shall we say. Dumb asses put an N instead of an M as part of my rego on the ticket. Ha ha to them  ;D

nah it was the S4 i was driving.

that's a stroke of luck with the letter swap. (well, not for the guy with the N on his plate)
