Test drive was fun, dealer did'nt have a car so phoned a "very good customer" who was happy for me to have two hour open road/city blat in their's. Car was well run in, a lot of fun. Dealer was keen to do a deal as well, 10k worth of extras would have helped  ;D

Good point, a Golf. Liked the concept Iroc, don't really like the Scirocco. But each to their own.

cool, I've seen one only Golf R in the wild, hugely understated compared to the R32's of either generation

possibly why I only seen one, didn't notice all the others  ;) :D

Thought I did well to get an R past the Girlfriend, let alone an RS3, I know when to quit  :)
I like the understated look (not that 19" wheels help with that) the fact the 98% of people think it's just a small hatchback.

I'd imagine the R is much cheaper than the RS3 will be... the R compares to the S3.

The only Golf to have is one of GTI spec or higher IMO, so good choice ;D

The only question that matters...... are they making it a Manual for you?
Too much power is almost enough.

Afraid not, first auto I've ever brought - must be getting old. Will be spending most of its time in the city anyway.

The way things are heading it will be impossible to buy a new vag car with manual transmission soon. 95% of the population have already made the switch to 2 pedals but I plan to resist for a while longer.

interesting looking through "the knowledge" in the back of a recent evo, they give the MK6 GTI 4 stars, the Golf R 4 and a half stars, the MK4&5 R32s 4 stars and the MK5 GTI five stars, also 5 stars for the MK2 16v quote "arguably the best all-round Golf GTI ever - we'd be splitting hairs"
