Update.

Dynoed the car 2 weeks ago, and it produced only 213WKW.  :-[
My old B5 RS4 produced 229WKW, and that was only 280KW flywheel versus the new cars 309WKW.
Clearly something was wrong!

Then to top it off, the speed sensor failed 2 days later (apparently very common) and the car became immobilised until a new part arrived.
3 days turned into 1 week.....

Did a bit of research, and with the help of lemans and diagnosed a stuck airbox flap which is supposed to open at high revs to provide more air.
Also discovered some disturbing news about audi FSI engines, and the carbon buildup they get in the inlet manifold, especially when not rev'ed often.
This can lead to between 20>70hp loss on RS4's!

So once the Speed sensor was fixed, i insisted that they look at the performance issue while it was there.
Results are:
> Confirmed Airbox flap stuck
> Possible ECU SW update coming
> Confirmed significant cabon build up, so they are removing both inlet manifolds for a proper manual scrub and clean ~ 10 hours alone
> Fixing the leaking drivers seat lumber support
> Replacing the lifting engine cover RS4 stick (that must be 5hp?)

Thank god for the factory warranty :)
They must hate me, cause i'm such a perfectionist when it comes to my car.

Should get back Monday.
Wil try and get it back on teh dyno ASAP, prior to the carbon setting back in.

Very interesting, even more of a reason to buy with a warrantee. Keep us posted please

So how many of the problems you found were reported by a VAGCOM diagnostic (if that's what you did) and how much by other research and investigation?

You've got me thinking now, although I haven't dyno'ed mine and don't have any reason to think that my RS4 isn't performing to specification - not that I could without driving another one.

Putting aside the Speed sensor failure + some random car door alarm fault, the only logged fault was a sinlge instance of a misfire on startup. Otherwise, no faults logged.
There is a VAGCOM test for the airbox flap, but it doesnt have an angle sensor, so will not log an ECU fault even if its stuck (this is a common rs4 problem).
The Carbon issue requires physical inspection (normally with a scope), and only under the most severe carbon buildup will it fault the inlet manifold flaps by picking up their incorrect angle.

Net answer, Dyno it, and compare to other 'healthy' cars.

PS. Its widley reported to keep your FSI engine healthy, it needs a weekly redline to clear out the inlet manifold.
However, once its built up, only a manual clean will fix. No amount of fuel additives will help.

Re: Preventative care, found this PDF

http://www.wynns.net/product_files/direct%20injection%20power%203%20(aerosol)%2023079.pdf

A few of the UK boys are trialling it.
My guess it wont remove the bulk of any exisitng buildup, but may avoid severve buildup it in a preventative way.

Got the RS4 re-dynoed at Torque today. Managed a 233.5WKW, up from the prior 213WKW.
So its a definite step in the right direction!

Since the old dyno it has:
> Had the Airbox powerflap fixed. Was suppose to open at 5000rpm, but was stuck permanently closed
> Had the inlet manifold removed and carbon cleaned.

I still feel that it should have 'more'. Given that the old B5 (280kw flywheel) produced 229WKW, this B7 (309kw Flywheel) should be into the 24xWKW area considering its just been carbon cleaned.

Running out of ideas. Unless the Carbon clean was a quick one, and not thorougher?

Maybe there is a difference in the gearing of the B7 diffs compared to the B5, could this make a difference?

As far as i'm aware RR Dyno's are gear agnostic when it comes to peak power.
Subject to any ECU querks which limit torque in lower gears that is.

Seems anything over 300whp is a good performance for B7s, e.g. http://www.audizine.com/forum/showthread.php/345708-Audi-S4-RS4-S5-V8-Dyno-Comparisons

So given variation between dyno reading your cars 233kw (312hp) sounds like it might be there, or thereabouts for a B7.

To try and progress this further, i'll need to log via VAGCOM the actual intake temp and timing during a run. Alas, i have not forked out the $500 bucks for one yet.

The power is probably very acceptable, but that doesn't stop me trying to tweak it up to the 'best possible' output ratings by working out the smaller niggles. The key will be to keep the Carbon buildup down, and there is a few preventative Aerosol treatments I'm investigating for this.

If all else fails, a 570hp APR Supercharger kit will fix it :)

lol just do it. It will make up for the fact you don't own a white RS4. Instead you have a sleek wolf. That could growl on command.
