I kinda like it. Mind you cutting a huge hole in the roof can't be great. RAs look good though

I think keeping the tin is the safest option... you have the Spider for open top fun ;)

Agreed - RAs looks good on it.

I love the roof idea - start cutting!

Could work - I'd like to see is a deflector as part of it.

I like the practical side of the ragtop, love sunroofs and love the idea of having the whole roof open. I dislike the look of it.

I also reckon the RAs are a nice wheel for the mk1 rocco but I think 15s are too big. Some wide 13s or 14s would suit better IMO. Nice work on the motor Spooln, this car will be a screamer!!  >:D

80 Vert

I would rather graft in a proper steel sunroof out of something like a MK1 or MK2 Golf, could be done nicely and would look factory, I too like sunroofs.

I would reccomend seam welding the side engine mounts before sand blasting especially if you are planning on a moderately more powerful motor, mine eventually broke due to no apparent single cause on then RSI

I would also try to make up some ineer gaurds (assuming you dont have them already as muck tends to get up behind the indicators and this really starts the rust.

Golfboy the I can answer the question to your GTI comparison, the GTI will lose. These are great driving cars

Good luck guys you will be well rewarded with the end result

80 Vert

Interesting point about the seam welding as I'd already figured that.
The rust at both ends is totally due to no fender well guards, aircooled Type3's have the same rust problem.
Easy to see how and why they changed so much in the MK2 Golf.

This is what I was thinking, a conventional sunroof off a Mk1/Mk2 but rebuilt/redesigned even so it works a bit better
Sun roofs are the shiz!  8) I want one in my Mk3.....  :'(

80 Vert

On a MK3 its even easier, drill the roof skin off and install one job done but lets not get off topic here........................

What does everyone think about the ragtops that you occasionally see on these?

http://forums.vwvortex.com/showthread.php?2840759-MKI-ragtop-scirocco-are-they-factory-or-aftermarket

Looks-wise I don't think it'll have a massive impact
I can see the appeal... but structural integrity, water leaks and wind noise would be my concerns
FWIW, I like the colour, blacked out frames etc and 15" wheels

The bottom line is its your car... you should do what you want to do, not what the unwashed forum masses think  ;)

this picture says so much about modern car bloat!

Roccos are Giugiaro at his elegant best IMHO, but looking through roccoregister suggests that wheel choice and stance is critical on these little beasties

What is that cutout in the factory front lip for? (e.g. you see it on the RHS lip on that blue car above). Would be cool to mount an oil cooler behind it.

And its off to the blasters, will come back looking a bit cleaner with some more holes in it no doubt.

How did the blue one drive?

Probably stick with no sunroof as the head clearance is tight enough without lowering with a sunroof.
