I wasn't going to make a build thread for this project but 80 Vert convinced me to make one, so here it is.
The car is a 1976 (pre facelift) mk1 scirocco. It's a NZ new car, originally a 1.6L 4 speed carby motor. From what I know, it was owned by an older gentleman who eventually lost his licence because of his age. He then gave it to his son who did a bit to it (lowered it and put a side exit loud exhaust on it) and then went overseas. It sat in a shed for about 10 years from when he went overseas until the older man sold it to a guy in South Auckland who had it for two years sitting outside with the intention of restoring it.
I bought the car for $1300, complete, rusty, and far from running.
I have a 24v v6 motor out of a v6 4 motion Bora and 02A 5 speed gearbox that'll be going in. I'll be running ABS and traction control but i'm not sure about A/C yet as it doesn't really bother me. I'll keep it 4x100 (purely for wheel choice) and am thinking about retrimming the original interior in black leather. We'll also try and use the original mk1 dash but with mk4 cluster in it.
The car was originally platinum silver metallic, and at some stage it's had a full respray. I intend to put it back to it's original colour.
Since having moved to a new flat with a huge garage and storage space, i've had the means to take it apart. At the moment, it's fully stripped with a few holes in it and ready for rust repairs. I have no time frame for the project, although i'd like it done as quickly as possible. It all comes down to money, so every spare dollar I have is going into this and I hope to have it on the road as soon as I can.
This is where I got it

It's a lot more bare now, I haven't taken any photos lately but it's a completely bare rolling shell. It's incredibly light too, I can lift the back end off the ground myself. To get the motor out, JDVW and I dropped it all, then lifted the front of the car over the motor! It will be a little ripper with a quick motor in it.
Soon it'll be off to the legendary Kanters Engineering to get all the serious work done!
