Hi guys.

Looking at a possible purchase of a 2002-2005 Touran.

I know they're a beefed-up Golf with 7 seats, but was wondering if anyone has one, had one or knows about them and can advise if I should reconsider or if I'd be getting decent motoring for my money.

At the age mentioned above and with between 65K and 80k km on the clock I'd be paying around the $15,000 mark, which is effectively my budget.

Hatch is getting too small and don't want to go to a large wagon.

come on back Jason, you know the Hoff needs to return to his natural home!   ;)

walk away from a 1600 though, I imagine that they'd be gutless

yeah it was 2.0 or nothing...the 1.6 could barely drag me along, let alone a potential 7 bodies!!!

What would you like to know.
It's essentially a mk5 golf.

Majority of the parts swap over. Can do a few OEM retrofit parts, cruise, SatNav, Bluetooth, radio etc.
I personally like them, but the TDI is so hard to come by.

Reliability? Well touch wood I have not had a single issue with my Mk5. So I would guess it would be pretty reliable too.

The DSG, could have mechatronic issues. If the car has any strange little habits, pulling away slowing down or reversing, get them sorted ASAP, prior to purchase.

The Mechatronics unit will set you back somewhere around the $8000-$10000 for parts, fluids and labour.
Other than that, just simply enjoy the car.
