A DX (Mk1 GTI 1. engine is rare in NZ, you would be better off keeping an eye out for a Mk2 GTI 1.8, more or less the same engine and bolts straight in.

If you get a mk2 engine you will need the intake mani and injector lines from the mk1

Or a MK2 1.8 8v with flowed head-MK1 and autotech286 solid lifter can. Bottom end completely tweaked[2k] then used for Targa 3x until I got pissed off with coming 3rd in class ! again !!
