As you have probably seen before, this is how she sat the day I brought her home

What seems like an age has passed(it actually has) since I first acquired this car but I have finished the civic up to a standard where I am happy to thrash it.

(My other car)
This means that I could finally start on this golf!
I bought it off of my cousin who didn't have the money to repair it properly and then neglected it for 5 years having it sit outside in the elements..
I couldn't bring myself to let another GTI die so I had to have it! My plan is to bring it back to stock with a bit of modern flair suspension and brake wise.
Now I didn't quite know where to start...but I thought the best thing to do would be rip up the carpet and assess the floor pan, as I had read quite a lot of horror stories from UK builds about massive rust in that area (mainly due to their salt on the roads).
Took me about 15mins to work out how to remove the seats, turns out you just push them right back and they slide off the rails lol.
Carpet out and I was pleased to see no major rust at all, I did however notice all the sounds deadening material was still completely damp, so obviously had to be removed.

This is all the s**t I ended up removing from under the carpet:

Seats need a good cleaning/recover

In progress shot, showing the nice repair job on the door..

This is what it ended up looking like after I'd used half a can of crc, I don't know whether to wire brush out the surface rust myself or leave it until I take it to get the bodywork repaired.

Cleaned up the dash as well, just because I knew it would be an easy job and look good once I was done..boosting morale =p

Lots of work to go!!
Next thing I want to start on will be the brakes, I have new lines, master cylinder, rotors/drums and pads to go in before I start on the engine
Would love to hear what you guys think I should be looking out for/what to do first.
