wtd: '93 2.8 v6 100 quattro fuel pump.
« on: September 16, 2011, 11:31:17 PM »
Bloody buggery car died in a carpark near work.  Symptoms:  cranks, sounds like the fuel pump doesn't run when the key is first turned on. All the dash lights work fine, windows etc work with the ignition on so it's not the ignition switch. Fuel pump relay clicks with ignition turned on so that's probably working.

It's happened before but intermittently.  This time it seems determined not to play the game at all.

Could be crank position sensor, When Wilco changed my motor we had no fuel, turned out that the sensor was the issue.

Thanks Andy,

Turns out it's a dicky fuel pump.  Thanks to BB' advice, a wee tap on the tank with a small hammer whilst cranking it got it going again.  Not bad, it died about 50m from home.  Now looking for a new pump.

Glad you got it going again, There is a Audi 100 2.8 at Avondale pickapart if you want a cheap fix, Not sure how much a brand new pump would cost.

Thanks!

Just spotted a  new one on eBay for about $110 NZD delivered so will probably run with a new one for reliability.  Might still go visit pick apart though.

Not a problem

I'm heading out there tomorrow to look for parts for mine, I'll let you know if the pump is still there.

Thanks guys,

I've just ordered a new pump from the States.  For just over $100 including delivery it's not worth shagging around with a second hand one.  I need a modicum of reliability as I use the quattro to get to and from work.

Cheers

Good to get a new one.
The old boot trick can save the day :) Glad that worked.
make sure you do the filter as well as you can burn out a new pump if the filter is partially blocked.
I do have plenty of 200 and 100 pumps if you want one tho i wish I had said that before..... :P

Defiantly do the filter. I recently did mine, Wow what a difference, runs smoother, starts easier and more power.

Andy mine's an Auto quattro with 256,000 kms and going strong.

It does have an aftermarket external transmission cooler (radiator cooler is now bypassed) and I replaced the transmission filters and flushed the fluid when I first got it a few years ago.  The original fluid smelled quite burnt so I think it was worthwhile.

I wish i had the Quattro, Mine has 242,000 kms still going nicely, after a few reasonably costly repairs lately.

I had my fluid changed at 235km it was really dark and burnt, then changed again at 240km, it was better but still a slight burnt smell. I will keep changing it every 5k until it comes out nice.
