Hi all, i'm looking at getting into a larger wagon than the mk4 golf we currently have, i am looking at the C5 allroad as being the weapon of choice, and hoping to get feedbakc from owners as to the best enginer to llok out for, the bogan in me says 4.2 all the way, but then again i'm told the diseasel is pretty sweet too.

Thoughts, opinions and observations welcome.

2.5 diesel has been known to eat camshafts :o 2.7t can be expensive if turbos need replacing, 4.2 nice and simple, sounds awesome and has a heap of power

I think you'll pay allot more for a 4.2, so also depends on budget.
If the 4.2 ar eanything like the Rs4, you'll get pretty friendly with your local petrol station..

I would have thought a lower km Diesel 2.5 with warranty (a good one, not the free with you car one) would be a good option.

Agree. The 2.5 isn't the fastest but would be way better on gas. Would be my pick.

Not sure if there are any issues with the air suspension but I would do a bit of research into what happens when it eventually wears out...

Pretty well documented that...

Will be looking out for one that has had new bags and compressor/ building that into the price we'll pay.
I'm really keen on the 4.2 so we might wait for a little while longer, and make sure that we buy the right one.
