Tail Light Bulb Removal
« on: November 21, 2011, 11:13:09 AM »
I've blown a brake light bulb and have just spent the last hour taking bits of interior trim off and swearing a bit. How do I get to the lights and more specifically the bulbs to change them? Surely it can't require a full dismantling of the rear end?! Any ideas are greatly received.

I don't know if it's anything like a MkV golf, but are there two or three plastic looking nuts in the boot, behind the brake lamp, hidden inside the felt trim in the boot?  Disconnect the wiring from the lamp assembly from inside the boot first and then you might have to remove those nuts and pull the whole lamp assembly out from the car to get to the bulbs.

That's what I have to do with my Golf anyway...

Theres a small hole that will allow you to remove a small section from the boot side trim... Remove this and there will be either a Phillips screw/8mm hex head or a black plastic flat blade screw/13mm hex head... Remove this and then pull the light out towards the outside of the car. The light should come out then... You will notice two black knobs that clip into rubber grommets when you put it back in!
Hope this helps!!!
