Octavia help
« on: November 22, 2011, 06:07:27 PM »
Hi all,
Went to exit the car tonight, pulled interior door release, heard something snap and then couldn't get out. Door handle works from the outside so that's a bonus, must have just been a plastic part giving way inside. I'll be having a go at sussing it tonight, any hints or tips I need to be aware of?

They have a cable in a sheath that runs from the door latch and hooks on to the interior door release... it might have popped off or the bracket came unclipped, or something has broken.

Pulled the door card off and it should be obvious - good luck :)

Cheers for that.
A few more components on the Skoda than I'm used to when removing mk2 golf doorcards. Same principle you think. Plastic parts just prise off gently with a flat head?

There's a guide on my website to removing the rear door card. It's very similar to the front. Look under miscellaneous mods and guides.

Off the top of my head the Mk4 has:
2-3 few hex screws along the bottom of the door card
2 big screws inside the interior door handle
1 little phillips screw at the top of the front end of the door card
then clips (ala Mk2) all the way around the bottom and sides. Lift the top upwards to fully release once the sides and bottom are released. Unplug door light/speaker/mirror & window controls. Disconnect the door release cable (if not already disconnected!)

Rob's on to it! Looks slightly different to the Mk4, but close enough.

Yep saw that on my google search thanks Rob. I'm having trouble getting the window control/door handle off. It just feels like it's going to break instead of pop out of some clips or something. As I''ve never seen it apart I'm not confident of being too forceful. Have you ever removed this plastic part from the front door?

Yes. The centre back piece of the main handle pops out. It's quite hard to get out, I had to use a screwdriver to lever the end out then pull out by hand.

Then the panel with the switches comes upwards. It's clipped in but takes some getting out, just be careful and patient!!

Use a big screwdriver and curse and yank at it.
