What appeared to be a Mk.V Jetta R32 in metallic grey in Remuera. An R32 nose, with R and Jetta badging on rear.

Also the following two. The first was quietly obeying the 40k speed limit on Ponsonby Rd. While the Volvo....well it's doubtful that it's a Baptist pastor that owns it, unless he has a 'wicked' sense of humour:

I'd like to say 'damn straight?' as a question, but that seems out of context. Curious though, internal p/plate perhaps?

That Jetta is probably a 2.0T engine with just 'R' badging. Japanese versions with 2.0T all come with chrome nose.

Definitely sounded like a V6 though. I had initially thought it was a Passat R36, but then caught the rear Jetta badge.

A Silver Mk3 Golf heading onto the Northern Motorway at Ellerslie Panmure, had Golf Eurosport on the bottom of the rear doors.

Definitely sounded like a V6 though. I had initially thought it was a Passat R36, but then caught the rear Jetta badge.

The Mk5 Jetta never had a VR6, its most powerful engine was the 2.0T.

The Jetta you saw was probably just one of the last R-line kitted Jettas sold in NZ.
