MK4 Golf Wagon
« on: January 04, 2012, 10:48:03 PM »
Got myself an 01 mk4 Golf wagon 2.0 150kms

Am I a total noob!?! who knows but I like it so far, compared with our 6n polo which just became too small.

Got it cheap because as always the auto is showing signs of crapping out.

I want to convert it to a manual, I will do the work myself.

Just wondering if anyone has any tips / done it before?

Can you swap out the LCD bit in the cluster to lose the PRND123 display part?

Cheers

You can code it out by telling it thats its now manual, this way the display no longer lights up.
Have you got a gearbox? I have a 2.0 Beetle one if you need one.
Its all pretty staright forward, change out padal box, add shifter box and gearbox / clutch obviously.
Bit of coding and bypass interlock relay.

my 2000 2.0 wagon has a 5spd beetlebox transplant, sometimes it has me reaching for a non existent 6th gear, but it recently did Akl - Wgtn - Akl very comfortably

happy to let you have a drive if you want, I'm on the Shore

The auto box's final ever haul!

Got a damn flat tyre hauling the load, had to unpack and re pack it all on the side of the road :-\ Car has a full size mag wheel spare with brand new tyre tho :)

Got the auto pretty much out this afternoon, just awaiting some sort of brace to support the engine then undo the final bolts, drop it out and then throw it as far as I can onto the scrap heap and collect my $15 or so bucks haha  :)

Anyhoo i'm not any expert but it looks like I have a 'dual mass' flywheel with the conversion parts I have, I seem to remember reading that these aren't the best or can give issues?? Should I change it / what parts are required? I'm just keeping the 2.0l for now

Cheers

Yer, I will just rock with the dual mass for now.

Can always change it later haha

Needed the tinware so contacted Miles in ChCh which did me a sweet deal, just waiting for it to arrive from Germany as soon as that arrives, hopefully soon, ill crack on with the box. There is always the clutch pedal and gear shifter to do in the mean time tho :)

More progress tonight, auto box out and in the scrap heap, manual shifter box and cables installed......  always do the satisfying stuff first aye!

So anyway noob alert! Put all the gearbox parts and parts removed including the battery into the boot and closed it......... those damn electronic locks on the boot aye haha

Really need my tinware now so I can put the gearbox back in, still need to install the clutch pedal and do the wiring tho....

Finished this today!! Now have a 6 Speed manual Wagon 8) all be it with a Keri 2L orange juice motor......... tbc

All good and big thanks to Barry / M for hooking me up with the final couple of parts on a Sunday!

Just need to Vagcom away the prnd123 off the dash and a couple of other minor bits.

Hooked up my mini scan tool after a short drive and it revealed many many Automatic Transmission faults haha

Code 00128 - Your auto trans is at the scrap metal dealer!
