Mk1 diesel 4 door with a blown motor - anyone want to rescue it?

I know where this car is sitting... waiting...  I'm told it has a cracked block, possibly repairable? Best to count on needing a new engine. From the brief look over I gave it today it's still pretty decent.  Tidy insides and not too bad in the body either. A bit of rust in the rear of the rear wheel arches, and in the front guards, but tidy in the gutters and all the other usual places. IMO - definately worth saving. going cheap.

It's not mine, I just know where it is and want to see it go rescued to a good home. the fine details will be entirely between the buyer and the seller.  He said he'd be happy if he gets $500 for it, so you can make of that what you will.

Is the rego on hold?
 I couldn't sell my perfectly running legal one with loads of miles for more than a grand so its worth more like the $300 a scrap dealer will give.
 I'm glad i didn't sell my one for that amount tho as Its a great little car.

 Got my Audi 200 avant all up and legal too for $100 after nobody would buy it for $500 Gona keep it.

I dunno about the reg. I just asked him about because I'm looking for a new petrol cap and it has one. 

I agree though, I can't see anyone paying $500 for it. I think it's worth fixing, but not if you pay more than 3/5ths of s**t all for it.

Rego is on hold, how the hell did it crack the block? Also are the ruc upto date?

It was in the mechanics for a blown head gasket, which they fixed, so the story goes: the when the apprentice was putting it back together he didn't blow the water out of the holes in the block where the head studs go, so when it warmed up it hydraulic'd and cracked the block.

Any rust? How many km?

Diesel km tag says paid up to 157,000kms so I'd imagine somewhere around there. 
Rust wise, I've only given it a 1 minute inspection, but I saw nothing in the gutters, a bit in the top of the front guards and some behind the back wheel at the bottom of the arch. I would not call it a rust bucket.

Generally pretty tidy if you cleaned all the green slime off it.  It has been sitting there for over a year.
