Mk5 GTI - noisy heater fan

Our Golf seems to have a noisy heater fan.  Sounds like it has a rumbly bearing.  I'm not sure if they all sound that noisy, or if there's a fault.  Hard to say whether it's always been like that, or whether I'm just more conscious of it in summer with the a/c running all the time.

Anyone else had the same problem?

Bearings don't normally go bad because they usually are just a plain bronze bush so its probably more something like the blade is touching some other part of the heaterbox.
Brushes can also make funny noises, I'd be removing it and running the fan outside of the airbox, if the noise goes away you know its touching something.
Usually pretty easy to get at with the glovebox out.

Thanks Vert.  I didn't think it was a bearing, but thats the sort of noise its making.  Good suggestion... I'll check it out

Did you figure out what was causing this? Driving my Mums GTI tonight I noticed her's is reasonably noisy too

Some of the jap cars have noisy fans at low KMs now too. Its the general cost cutting in the modern car build I think.
