Hennie and Anton,

I was also told it was 60,000km or 5 years.

Okay - maybe less smooth 2nd to 1st shift coming to stop is pretty normal for 2006 era GTI DSGs.

I am test driving it this Saturday - if I like it, then time to purchase! VAGCOM it first of course. But then, I am purchasing it from a close friend, so don't want to rip him off either.

How much would you expect to pay for

2006 Black GTI - leather, 52000km, DSG, xenon, full Giltrap service history. He bought it brand new had it all along. Had recently sorted out auto headlight on sensor / short circuit in the system draining battery / new battery put in. No mods, stock as stock. Lots of scrapes on wheels repair required, and needs dent magician to pull small door dings (about 4-5). Overall great condition.

I was thinking up to 29k. He was pretty honest, he just wants to find out what the trade in prices are at VW for i.e. against Golf R and he said he will sell it to me around that price. However, if you go to a VW dealer, they may give you less discount on the new car, but value your car higher - so will be interesting to see how much he comes back at. He did ask me to come along to the dealer, but I trust him.

I think I will be happy at around 27-28k, because there are things that need to be done
1) wheels need repaired
2) small door dings removed
3) I want extended warranty just in case

DSG service will also add $$.

25k would be good. :-)

I'm a bit slow to pick up on this thread, I have an '07 GTI DSG.  Bought it last June, haven't had any problems with it.  The heater fan is a bit noisy, and it uses a bit of oil - but I understand that's pretty common - and that's about the extent of the issues (touch wood).

The DSG occasionally shunts slightly in first gear, but I've spent a bit of time driving a Fiat Stilo Abarth, which uses Alfa's Selespeed system, and the DSG system is light years ahead of it (especially around the first/reverse interchange).

If it's your friends car, you know the history and he hasn't had any problems, I don't think you can go too far wrong

29K would be a yard ready price IMO.
I dealer would want to trade it owing them somewhere around 20-22K plus what needs spending.

Great responses - thank you appreciate it.

Really looking forward to it. Our A3 is great - handles well, and personally interior is better, but as with expected with baby and all, need to go with 4 door as I don't think 3 door will be that practical with baby bucket seat at the back...
