If there was ever a time to be fussy it is now, especially on the drivers side or you will see what ever is bugging you every time you get in an out of the car.

Finished up the last of the anodizing stripping, glad that's over with too.
Sodium Hydroxide is some seriously nasty stuff but the upside was that the gutter worked beyond my expectations!
Just perfect for delicate long aluminium trim, just a word of warning though if you do have ago at this its best to do it outside as the brew gives off Hydrogen gas  >:D ;D

Within minutes its furiously bubbling away, did 4-5 pieces at a time leaving them in for 15-20 min.
Wash them off once out of the brew and you're left with a dull finish so now I can clean up all the marks and polish them.
There is quite a bit of pitting in some of it which is too deep to do anything with so will just have to live with that unfortunately.

A couple of weeks ago I went and saw a chrome plater I used many many years ago for another car I built, took a whole lot of parts down with me and left them with him to work through.
Once those are done I'll send him some more stuff till its all done, like the aluminium trim its got a lot of chrome too (read $$$$$$$$$  :()
While talking to him I mentioned I was going to get the ali trim re anodized to which he said nooooooooooooo!!! don't do that.............. :(
The one company who do it is useless apparently, just my luck once again..............still, better to find out before rather then after when all my unobtanium trim is ruined.
Soooo, plan B is to polish all of it and use a 2 pack ceramic clear over top of it which should slow down its decay.
Over the last few weeks I've been trying to do a few pieces a day, not a fun job but have no choice.
All of the pieces are soft as buggery so very difficult to polish as the polish itself scratches the surface, never will be perfect but a lot better than it was.

Not much in the way of enthusiasm this morning, didn't really have a clear plan in mind which was half of the problem.
Did however manage to finish the headlight ring as the chromer had stripped it along with the 2 fog rings (were badly cracked at the bottom) and sent them to me to repair.
The headlight ring had a few cracks where I'd beaten it so I silver soldered the crack and metal finished it, looks just like a bought one  ;D
Pretty surprised to find that all the rings are made from brass and the headlight ones have a welded join at the base, quite amazing how they are constructed.

Both the fog ones had cracks which were also silver soldered, quite tricky since they are very very thin.
Used regular solder to fill in a couple of low areas, fitted them to the body to check and will send them back to the plater on Monday.

Good progress on this. I kind of like the fact that the polished pieces aren't prefect. I think there is a certain beauty in parts which have marks or inperfections from their lives over the years. Gives character.
Bought not built.

Agree. Good work Vert

Yeah I get what you are saying and I constantly have to remind myself that all of these parts already have 50 years of service under their belt  :)

At long last my roof came in last week, time to crack on and finish the body work.
The donor roof is perfect rust wise which is just unheard of and a true stroke of luck, way beyond what I expected to get  ;D
First job is to prepare the roof to get it ready to be blasted and primed, decided which way I'm going so started unpicking the drain box from the main roof which was relatively easy.
They used a combination of spot welds and brazing which was common of the day.

With the drian box removed the rest of the un needed crap could be cut off / removed leaving me with just the pieces I want.
Hopefully next week the weather plays ball for blasting but at least during the week I'll strip the outside with the stripper disc and prime that first.

More work the way I'm going to do it but should give the result I'm looking for, I feel that cutting the pillars is just cheating and a potential nightmare getting the window openings correct again not to mention the drain pipes down the front pillars.
Also going to replace the rear inner structure of the roof at the same time as mine isn't looking too flash where as the donor one is perfect.

Just an insane amount of work gone into this.
Blows me away.
The end is nigh, but the end of what is the question?
