Crisp!
Job done JK!
Gotta admire that you get things done!
While others waste time and effort preparing to have a hangover....others are productive and produce works of art!
Brilliant work as always!

Thanks, would rather do something constructive instead of dealing with a hangover  ;D

Pulled the car out yesterday and de masked most of it so that I can start color sanding it in preparation for buffing.
Most of it came out ok other than debris landing on the flat surfaces along with some dry spray due to the lack of available light so rather than do bits here and there I'll flat the whole thing down and give it a cut.
I'm not looking to eliminate the peel completely but 90% of it will suffice as it will give a more modern car paint finish.

Cut the roof yesterday which has been painted for nearly a week and its already pretty tough to buff so I'd better not leave it too long, I did the top of one guard yesterday and it polishes up pretty easy still so hopefully I'll get all the way around before the paint sets.
Here's some pics from yesterday, not bad for a home job I think.

Paint wise things are looking up, spent most of the day sanding and compounding even though my good polishing pad decided no more and started to fly to pieces.
Since all the paint stores are closed for the holiday I had to make do with my back up, I guess things could be worse and not have one at all!

Sanded most of the top side of the front with 1200 and followed that up with 2000 making cutting a lot quicker, certainly worth the extra effort sanding it with finer paper.
By days end I've ended up finishing the whole front, right door and rear quarter so all going well I'll finish the rest tomorrow.
Once the outside is done the rest of the masking can come off and I'll then blend the jambs.

Light colours don't seem to photograph all that well but you can see the reflection of the jack stands in the door   YEAH baby!!

Bugger I was on a ride out west today and went past your place, should of popped in I didn't even think of it. It's looking good!
Do you think you're going to catch the tail end of Summer with it?

You should have called in, was here too.
Nah don't think so as all the parts which have to go back on are all knackered as well and need restoring, realistic goal will he 6-8 months away.
Besides I have the Porsche to distract me now as well which got some TLC today.

Now that the paint is done I shifted it out of the workshop this afternoon to a more clean area for assembly, was also able to temporarily fit the new steering wheel I bought about 4 years ago at a VW show in Sydney
Looks a whole lot different in natural light I think.

Came to a dead end on the 911 yesterday so carried on with the Ghia, pulled the fresh air boxes out of storage to start working on those.
Feared the worst as these are normally rusted beyond belief but to my amazement mine are pretty much perfect just needing a sand blast and paint.
The flaps will need replacing as well as the cable outers at least that is the easy part.

I want to do a run of black soon while the weather is still good so the more parts I can clean up the better, While blasting I also blasted the spare wheel cover and epoxy primed all of it once done.
When I got this car it had a Beetle gas tank in it and was fortunate to find a Lhd type 3 tank very early on which had already been acid dipped and sealed with tank sealer.
However it being a late tank it doesn't line up with the vent line on the body which I was just going to live with but have now decided to do properly.

Sooo, cutting a hole in a perfect tank..........
Not that smart but it needs to be right, cut the vent pipe out and started making the new piece to go in which is actually quite a difficult shape to make.
Once I'm happy with how it looks I'll weld it in and check it for leaks before painting the tank.
