To be honest its pretty dumb to be doing this, the whole country has grown up with the current rules as well as being taught to drive this way when getting your licence here and now they are going to completely change things over night.
People struggle to drive properly as it is, it will be a complete nightmare with lots of accidents.

it's pretty simple really, "give way to the right when turning right"

the current rule had the advantage of giving priority to turning traffic to get it out of the middle of the road, but the rest of the world didn't drive like that, so we're changing to fit in with them

Yes it's simple enough - but the point is that everyone has to adjust their habits and remember.

It's so easy to revert back to habit. Like in France when I pulled out of a T-junction and was happily driving on the left side of the road and nearly had a head on with someone!

It is a ridiculous rule.
Nobody fully understands it, nobody knows when to observe it, everyone overtakes the car turning left causing utter confusion, coming to pedstrian crossings you need to watch everywhere, including out of the back of your head.
Changing this can only be for the better even if it does cause a lot of carnage for a few days after it

plus all the people that are turning right will now have to wait in the middle of the road for longer, probably start to get impatient and chance slim gaps as a back log of traffic behind them get snotty.

ah come on, it works for the rest of the world and if people driving towards them thinking of turning left see theyre holding up a ton of traffic then they give them a courteous wave to allow them to turn.

I find it's very rare that anyone lets you out here. In fact more often than not I see people deliberately accelerate to close gaps rather than let someone in or out.
Traffic would flow better if people had better manners!

x2 Rob, in fact we had that several times last weekend following some tosser doing 80 on the highway, come to a passing lane so I went to pass and they sped up to 110.
Passing lane finishes and thet're back to doing 80  ::)

Even though the rules are a lot different in the US I find it heaps easier to drive there mainly due to people being more courteous, and their free right turn on red lights is a total winner!

I don't understand why people do it. Not sure if I'm getting old or what but I don't care if someone overtakes me or if I let a car or two in.
It makes seconds of difference to my journey time.

The speeding up and slowing down thing on the open road is annoying. I will overtake people when I want to make progress but passing lanes are the safest place to do that. Stopping people from passing you in passing lanes is stupid, just winds people up, and encourages overtaking in less safe places, or forces you to do 120+ to overtake, which can get expensive :)
