Stuttering MkV GTI
« on: February 02, 2012, 11:48:37 PM »
My '07 GTI has just developed a stuttery misfire.  I was driving up a slight incline in 3rd gear (DSG), part throttle at maybe 40km/h, eased my foot down a little further and just like that she starts stuttering away.  Engine light came on, she stutters at idle and is hard to get off the line, but I managed to get her home ok

I'm thinking possibly vacuum leak but probably more likely a dead coil pack... any other suggestions?  Anything I can do/check?  Or do I just need someone with VAGcom(?) to diagnose the problem?

Cheers...

If it's coil - should be done under recall for free.

PCV ok?

If the PCV was blown or leaking, you would experience low boost. Still no stuttering.
In the MK6 TSI engine the PCV can cause the stutter.

Cheers for the advice fellas

just to try,

when the car stutters at idle.
If you pull the Dipstick out, Does it stop or stay the same?

Clearly it's a major problem with your abarth. Probably terminal even. I'll take it off you if that helps?

The car went to the dealers before I got a chance to try this

Just picked her up from the dealer... all 4 coil packs replaced under warranty, no charge  :)

Even better, the tow there and my taxi ride to collect it were covered under my RACV membership

Good results all around.

I'm happy it was only coil pack. Then you got the bonus of all being replaced by vw.
