Hello,

I'm very interested to see what 19inch wheels on the standard suspension would look like on the mk5 golf gti. Appreciate anyone sharing their photos.
Im trying to see if I should go for 18s or 19s. and MAYBE springs...

Cheers

It would look like a Tiguan. Keep stock unless you are going to lower it IMO

Definitely needs to be lower. Mine is on 18's and would look wrong at std height IMO. I might be shot for this, but I think 19" is too much for a Golf too...

Get good enough springs and it'll ride better than factory.

Mine (std height, factory 18's) looks OK until I park next to my mate's on lowered 19's, then my car looks like an SUV

Try with std springs before lowering, depending on the wheel it could be OK.

Just don't do the stupid clown car/stance thing.

Sweet. Be good if anyone could post up some photos of what it looks like on 18s or 19s standard. Looks like i might need to get springs. 60mm springs? Any links appreciated  :D

Sweet thanks for the photos  ;D

Im guessing 60mm springs would it sit it right? anyone lowered theirs with springs? Really want to avoid buying coilovers/cert, etc

I would think lowering a gti by 60mm was too much. 40mm would be max in my mind for nz roads. Has anyone here gone with 60mm?

Just throw all that all that engineering/R&D VW did away and slap some $400 springs in so it's aesthetically pleasing right?

Geez even 40mm is too much.

Prodrive used to recommend a max drop of only 20-25mm when they were tuning hot Scoobies.

The pic above of the white GTI running 19's hardly looks a high rider.

I'm definitely surprised by how Chris' Mk5 looked on 19s.

I still wouldn't bother, rides just right on 18"

Mine is lowered 15mm I believe from factory.

High rider, lots of suspension travel, good for yumping.

Ok, anyone recommend any brands for springs? Might go 40mm.
And prices please  :)

Missed this, whoops - you sure it's that much?

It needs new springs I think as after having the workshop look at the uneven riding issue and then having the tyre shop look at it, the consensus is that a fatty has been driving it with no passengers!

I think Hennie said mine were H&R (I'm not a spring colour guru!) and they ride great. A little soft, but I think for a good overall ride that's better than hard.

I'll be looking to replace mine now due to the above issue, could look at ordering together from overseas if the prices stack up...

Yeah could be keen, maybe just keep me posted on how much, if they are more than $500 then probably not keen.
