You need to make it clearer what you are doing, maybe someone will think you have put mk2 brakes on a vr  .
Best to explain ,have you put vr brakes on an auto mk2,what arm did you change? I'am lost for words @ this stage ???

I have a MK2 golf auto I replaced the brakes with that of a VR6. The problem I now have is that the existing shaft of the MK2 is touching the body of the car when turning to the left. Any advice as to how I can fix this problem

Engine mounts maybe  :-\ :-\ :-\,did you change the bearing /hub carriers? did you align the struts back the way they were?

The bearing hubs are VR6 ones.
Don't the strut just go in one way only?
Will need to check engine mount.

Have you had a look @ the mounts ? best way is to rock the engine back and forward it shouldn't move too much, pretty sure the auto has a special front mount ? front mounts seem to go first from my experience.
The struts have larger holes than the fitting bolts this will change your camber and tilt the shaft/s.

Another thing is the bottom ball joints they are in slotted holes also, check them too.

Yes they are but holes were abit off so i reamed the two back hole of the ball joint to fit in the slot.
Are you in Auckland?

watercooled

Nah, I'am on the wrong island, you appear to have a miss match of parts never alter parts to make them fit? get a full wheel alignment to sort your problems, cheers.
