I beleive the later fuel pump relays are earth triggered where as the early ones are triggered off the coil
Yea found that out working last night ,mine is the early type as is my boys 89,my ecu loom came from an 89 diji also,so knowing that is a move in the right direction

Basil is correct

Being an 89 I would say it would run off the coil

That is the fuel pump will not run unless its getting a signal from the coil, mine was an 89 and it was like this
Reckon the k-jet relay is the one to keep as that was running the pump before my ecu problem.
So you are talking coil negitive for that wire?

Thanks heaps guys.

I think it is the negative side that gets the interruption.
The end is nigh, but the end of what is the question?

Which side of the coil? ,should be negitive side, right?

Cheers basil found that out from the net.
I have only partial power to the pump as I found out today, pulled the cover off the relay and pushed the contact maually and the pump really worked like it should, that explains the lack of pressure @ the fuel rail. ??? ???
I have a stand alone ecu control relay and I will set  that up as the fuseboard hase the plug for the relay but the contacts are wrong .
Experts say to replace the fuel pump relay with the mk2 diji or mk3  but again the relay contacts are wrong to run this type of relay ? the reason to change being the k-jet gx motor had a built-in rev limiter but my old engine had that on the dizzy rotor ?

#23
UPDATE.......... have wired in standalone ecu relay and it works a treat ,now have power @ injectors (12V +) and injector pulse voltage when cranking on starter,icv,02 sensor, plugs sparking etc all working and thats it???.
Have fuelpump relay not closing contacts but even with a jumper from #30 and 87 relay pins it works, strange thing is I still have huge pressure @ the black supply hose and the return is dry as is the fuel rail ??? ??? ???.
Have opened up the railrail and blown thru it ,all clear, changed fps, tested the pump into a container 300mls in a few seconds, cant understand this pump (passat 16v) not putting fuel into the rail as it ran a 70psi system before this and diji is only low pressure  :( :( :(
Any idea's guys, would be most welcome as I'am running out of beer and pills again

My Bentley manual has fairly comprehensive wiring diagrams.
Happy to put on a courier if you want to borrow it for a bit.
Thanks Nic had your offer in my mind a few times but found a Benley diji 2 diagram on the net but had to modify my system a lot buts the cars running now, cheers mate.

Some just said fit a ce2 loom and its "plug and play",well maybe but there is a real difference in wiring colours from diagram to diagram ,heaps of different specs for differant countries, for instance a wire that doesn't exist in the diagrams is critical to make the fuel pump work.
The stand alone relay is the best solution to power the ecu because my old engine only had a simple lambda computer, all the sockets are in the fuseboard but don't have any wires going to them  :( :( :( :(
The diji 89 model ecu loom i fitted had differant colours to my boys 89  ??? ??? ???.
I goes like the clappers besides all the BS I had ,all was good untill I blew a cv,just got home
A big thanks to all that helped, when you get bogged down new idea's are real helpful.

I had a similar experience doing a loom, I had an engine that is pretty common but from the donor it came from is extremely rare worldwide and when it came time to do the loom none of the colors was right so I had to go thru the ecu pinout, total pita

Tell me about it, got a Bentley diagram for 89 model, way off base, the uk cars are differant again for instance no lamda in the early ones and diji cars the same.
I still have a problem with my blue temp sensor which is causing bad overfueling after warm-up,hopefully its the sensor :-\ :-\

I am going to put the ABF I have into the new golf I got off Basil and I am just going to fit the whole mk3 fuse box and everything, immobilizer and all.
