I see VW Japan is now selling the up!, so they will turn up in NZ one day whether EMD likes it or not ;)

comparing ratio of prices of same/similar spec Polo's between Oz, UK, and NZ and
also throwing the Suzuki Alto in for reference, my guestimate is the up!
will be $21000 at least..
Hopefully VW will have a trick up its sleeve and make it a sub $20k car if it were to come this way.

if we do get the Up! here, EMD will do their tautological thing that goes "there's no market for three doors in NZ, so we won't bring any in, so there are none to buy, so there's no market for three doors in NZ because no-one buys them"

I saw one of these in Italy in May, and there are few out in the wild around here in Japan already. They are a cool looking little car! Especially with the Upsilon wheel option which seems to be standard on the Japanese ones (or a popular option).

it seems these numbers (+- $18000 AU) for the up was wrong-ish, that was with all options or
something, the base model actually sells for $14000 base price!!! IF sold here, it could be
sub $20 000 after all.

Sounds like the Up is coming and will be priced below the Polo according to the small talk on this write-up.
excerpts:

"No, we're still working out things with the Up! but we believe we can place it for less money than a Polo." (VW New Zealand boss Tom Ruddenklau)

"He also says it (Polo) will still stand comfortably ahead of the wee Up!, a micro VW hatchback whose introduction here has been set back toward some months; early indications that it will be here in April will not be realised."

Sounds like it will come then..

What is NOT good at all is that they appear to be waiting for the ASG version which is the worst option they could go for.
Reports I have read have all slated it as hopeless as all these small automated manuals are. Whats wrong with regular a 5 speed manual?
Hopefully Skoda will do the right thing, they look a lot better than the VW version anyway
