Hi guys
i have a huge problem - all sudden my Jetta won't start.
It previously had some troubles with starting if parked uphill over night (had to spin it for 5-10 seconds), but this time it is just dead.
I have recharged battery (it is not new, but still can turn the starter for a minute or two) but still no signs of combustion.
engine is spinning but no combustion sound.
It also was a bit low on diesel so i added 10 more liters.

Ok i pulled the car out and now it is facing down hill, recharged battery but still same thing.

Any ideas? how can i check if engine gets fuel?
I tried to scan it with a scanner (cheap bought on ebay) but it returned nothing and could not scan diesel pump :s

Thanks in advance

Check all fuses.
you already checked diesel level.
charged the battery. can you jump start from another car?
to be 100% sure its not the battery?

when i had this similar problem sith my 2.0 tdi 3 years ago.
the battery, starter motor and 2 injector seals where replaced.

If the battery can only spin it for a min or two get a new battery first.
Buy a KOBA from Partmaster, cheap and very good quality.
The end is nigh, but the end of what is the question?

I think BB is right. We had starting problems on a golf, lots of mucking around, and then vanished with a new battery.

i also tried to jump start with other car (mitsi colt)
same effect

i suspect no diesel gets into engine (drained out when parked uphill?!)
i also read some stories about "non-return valve" needs to be fitted,  can this be the case? [no idea why it is not factory fitted though if this can be problem]

i guess i can try to get new battery, and if no luck return it... don't want to be investing in $250 battery to find out it is not the cause...

replacing a 6 year old battery insn't necessarily a waste of money, more of an investmnent IMHO

If your battery isnt steong enough your glow plugs wont preheat properly and ur engine will endlessly crank and not start

Mine does it when i forget to let it preheat

how long does it usually preheat?

any way to find out if i got diesel in the engine?

BB

The Koba batterys are not that expensive I don't think.
They need to crank at a certain speed to build enough compression to start.
If your battery is weak buy a new one.
I have seen so many people fail at jump starting.
Did it crank hard and fast with the jump?
The end is nigh, but the end of what is the question?

Modern tdi engines dont even need glow plugs for our climate

yeah but if you dont let them do their thing and crank the engine usually wont allow it to start if i throw the key in and push start without letting it do its glowplug thing it causes a non start..

(But then again im quietly inclined to believe my battery is nearing the end of its useful life which is probably another contributing factor)

I don't suppose you have a 125kw motor?

There was a lot of grief with injectors going on the GT TDIs here in Australia.  Don't know if NZ cars had the same issue.

But then I think 2006 is a bit early to have the 125...  I think they only came out in '07 when DPFs became standard.

Yeah, do what he ^ said.  But find someone with a decent VAG-COM.  Might get more info that way.

There's a few guys here with one so, hopefully there's someone who's local to you.
