Nice project, Iv been following the thread for a while.

I have a 98 Polo and decided to put a V8 in it too but I put it in the middle making it rear wheel drive, I used a 4 door shell as it makes access to the engine really easy and leaves loads of room for twin turbos (if I need them)

I cut in A4 Quattro rear quarters and suspension so I could use the rear hubs with driveshafts and have bigger brakes and wheels, these are 17 inch GTi wheels and they fit just right. Im going to use the A4 front hubs and brakes to match.

Its a slow process but Im getting there :D

oops I forgot the engine pic.

Wow.
What V8 are you using?
I like the rear cut for the mechanical side tho it is looking a little fugly so far.
The end is nigh, but the end of what is the question?

tim_hcsc

Im in Whangaparaoa just north of Auckland, I have a garage where I specialise in VW and Audi hence sticking the two of them together.

This is what the floor looks like when you cut it out  ;D

I added a main beam to strenghten the floor and build the rear end from, I used a Trammel gauge borrowed from the body shop next door to make sure everything is square, if I mess this bit up everything else will be out of line.

Are the black arms with bushes the A4 rear subframe?
Have you added engine mount points to them?

The engine is a 4.2 V8 taken from a 98 A8 and coupled to an A6, V6, 5 speed tiptronic box.
I have added a whole rear subframe and suspension from a A4 Quattro which will have to be cut in the middle to accept the transmission, the heavy bracing is to hold the suspension tops as they would normally be supported bu the parcel shelf.
Before I cut the Quattro to pieces I made jigs for the suspension so that I could re align everything more easily.
I have made a cradle for the engine that bolts to the new chassis rails so that the engine and box can easily be dropped out of the bottom of the car.
If the bracing looks too ugly when it gets further down the track I can always cut it out and make something lighter.

Its probably going to get a whole lot uglier before it starts to look like a car again.

Can see a bit better now :)
Be a fun little car to punt along in.

It should be a lot of fun, I figured with a mid engine and rear wheel drive the weight distribution should be about right for great cornering and the engine height is low enough that its below window line so it cant be seen too easily, I will just box it in and it should be quiet too.

Here is the rear end all boxed in with regulation 100 x 50 so it will pass its cert as a scratch built.

Skill is, sucessfully tightrope walking across the Niagra Falls.
Intelligence is, having the sense not to do it.

Id like it to be finished tomorrow but the wife says work comes first, I also have to finish my project motorcycle which a turbocharged Kawasaki Z1300 (6 cylinder) built as a streetfighter.

Realistically about another 6 months

Very glad to see your project as we had heard of it in the grapevine

As the advocate for such foolishness I can really appreciate the extent of what you are attempting.

I hope you find your way through the endless complexities

Cheers
