Hey everyone,

This is my first post really, would really appreciate any advice on the Cup Edition that I'm about to buy. I used to own 2002 Seat Ibiza Cupra R in London, this looks like it's about the same spec. Is there anything I should watch out for on them? By the way I have owned evo 8's sti's golf gti's and this polo was by far the most fun I have had with my clothes on  :) loved every minute of it.!

there are less then 10 of these currently in NZ, that I am aware of.
The Cup edition had the body kit, and not much else. It's pretty much just a dressed up GTI.

The only thing I am aware of about these are the fact if you don't cool the turbo down properly after a spirited drive.
They have a tendency of loosening the bolts from the turbo to Exhaust manifold.

Otherwise, they are great cars. Look good, drive nicely and go like cut cats with a mere tune. But with intake, tune and turbo back exhaust you can push these out to approx 145-165kw's at the front wheels. So lighter then MK5, almost similar power figures and much better power to weight ratio,

The Polo GTI Cup Edition had a 132kw/180hp 1.8T, not the 110kW/150hp of the standard Polo GTI.

Thanks mate, yeah I was thinking the cup edition had a few extra horse's over the standard gti. Either way it was an absolute hoot to drive.

If its this one: http://www.trademe.co.nz/motors/used-cars/volkswagen/polo/auction-514204131.htm
I think its well over priced. If I were you I'd look into importing one from Japan.

Yes it is that one, comparing it to the other gti's that i have seen on trade me it does't seem that over priced does it ??

I would love to import my own especially a 3 dr model instead but I wouldn't know where to start ??

fairly sure it's purely mapping nothing more for the 132kw, ain't it?

GLIDN is correct. It's only a mear tune difference and body kit. Slightly lower too. I have to say I do love the wheels!

I would not consider them any better than standard GTIs if you are planning to tune them. If you want to keep it factory then it's another story.
I do not think they are overpriced especially that black model if it's full genuine cup model. Even though the mileage is touch high.

Be sure to check out the mileage / service history, as apparently to change the mileage is as easy as buying a 50 pound software and plug in the number you like. Or switch the instrument panel.

Aside, Polo is the longest keeping car I have ever had. It sure is super fun. Driving Golf GTI back to back, Polo feels like a go kart, Golf more like a grand tourer in comparison.

Like GLIDN said, it's easy to get power out. Mine should be 140kw at wheels. If you want more then you go with a front mount intercooler which will net you another 7kw or so. 150kw at wheels is doable at reasonable cost.

What more could you want? 30hp more than a standard one, a nice body kit, nice wheels and lower suspension. I'd say it's worthy of being called 'Cup Edition' and certainly not just a dressed up GTI or just merely tuned. Apparently the brakes are bigger/better also, I can't confirm that though.

I like them 8)

Ill see what I can find. But at those kms at that price I think they are asking way to much.

In pic 13 the brakes don't look especially large under what I imagine are 17s? If they are bigger my guess is they'd be 312s from early S3 / Mk4 4Motions.

Not much point I'm afraid, the 288/312mm setup parts are in some cases cheaper to purchase locally then buy and ship from the UK.

Honestly I do not know, I do for some reason think its only the stock 288mm.
When popped pass and had a look at this car the brakes did not appear to look any different to the mk4 I was driving at the time.
